So ... what else do these charts contain that's "interesting" in the 20-20 hindsight of knowing what happened in the human events of these two moments?

Well, another thing I'd point to that is obvious even to the casual glance is the "lopsidedness" of the configurations in the sky at the time of both accidents. The Challenger chart shows a striking preponderance of planets in the top half of the chart. The Columbia chart shows a striking preponderance of planets on the left hand side of the chart.

Charts which are "top-heavy" ... like the Challenger chart describe people and events that are highly visible, very "out in the world" in their focus, that are dramatic and public in their presentation, that are involved with their careers and community standing. Top-heavy charts describe people and events that get attention, that are memorable and dramatic, that have what we might call style, flair and impact associated with them.

Even the Moon in the Challenger chart, the only planet in the bottom of the chart, is in the self-promoting 5th house. People -- and events -- with the Moon placed here have an instinctive "flair for the dramatic," are consummate romantics, enjoy risk and "taking a gamble." When this placement is well supported, they usually manage to bet on a sure thing and gracefully "come up a winner" far more times than not.

When the placement is afflicted, however, they can be tempted into over-stepping their limits with gestures that are equally dramatic but that end in spectacular failure. Those wonderful instincts play them false and their "feelings" -- their love of excitement -- lure them into making serious mistakes in judgment. I will deal further with the afflictions to the Moon in the Challenger chart as we go on.

Charts that are "left-dominant" like the Columbia chart describe people and events that are proactive, that find themselves very much "in control" of their circumstances, that feel they are in charge of their decisions and choices, who believe and act as if they are in charge of creating "results" and responsible for what happens in their lives. Astrologers refer to charts with this kind of left-hand emphasis as "destiny creating" charts.
