As I mentioned, earlier, the Moon in the Challenger chart is seriously afflicted by a square to Saturn -- placed in the 8th House of death, permanent change, and mutual resources. Moon / Saturn squares denote depression, major burdens and often a lack of support from others, the need to deal with serious and weighty issues, the failure to find emotional fulfillment, and a general atmosphere of "no joy."

This configuration suggests a "complete, frustrating blockage" to the exuberant, enthusiastic energy of the metaphor for feelings and emotions -- the Moon in the House of enjoyment and the Inner Child.

Those familiar with the results of the investigation into the Challenger explosion will recall how a series of decisions by "support personnel" set up the deadly chain of events that culminated in this explosion -- including the decision to launch in weather that was far too cold, and the failure of administrators to heed the warnings of engineers that the program was routinely taking potentially calamitous chances.

The signing of "special waivers" had become so routine, there was no longer solid recognition that the very existence of "special waivers" indicated something anomalous, irregular, and possibly hazardous that at least needed to come to the attention of an administrator willing to agree to the risk.

In the Challenger chart, the 5th House Moon is also widely square to Uranus -- again in the 8th House of death and destruction, and approaching exact square -- not departing. Moon / Uranus squares indicate abrupt, intense, unexpected emotional outbursts -- and bizarre, unpredictable disruptions involving one's security structures -- including home and family.

The Moon in the Challenger chart is seriously stressed by the inconjunct aspects to Mercury / Sun / Venus -- components of the Aquarius stellium in 10th House. An inconjunct is a stressful aspect of adjustment -- and the inconjuncts here between these planets would portray strong emotional adjustments and family adjustments made necessary by issues involving both work and health.

The Moon in the Columbia chart is in the 12th House -- of self-sacrifice, sorrow, self-sabotage, regret, loss, betrayal, and self-destruction opposing Jupiter in the 6th House -- of work and health issues. Moon / Jupiter afflictions involve again, emotional excess, acute "over-reactions", and "going to extremes."
