In the Challenger chart, the Mercury / Sun / Venus conjunction in Aquarius is significantly stressed by the square to Pluto ... and this triple conjunction is itself square to the Ascendant / Descendant axis from the 10th House. (In an individual's chart, this would depict someone involved in willful, vainglorious career and professional pursuits -- highly concerned with projecting "the right image" of a free spirit and pioneer -- at the expense of both his personal and his relationship interests.)

Neptune in 9th House in the Challenger chart suggests someone in pursuit of a highly romantic, impractical, possibly self-sacrificing (or selfless, depending on your slant) philosophical ideal. Neptune in the Columbia chart is conjunct the Sun and Moon and in the 12th House of self-sacrifice, impractical pursuits, spiritual inspiration, and dissolution -- underscoring those themes once again.

Jupiter is afflicted in both charts. In the Challenger chart by an explosive square to Mars in Scorpio, again a sign associated with willful actions and choices in situations where death and destruction are strong possibilities. (And Jupiter square to Mars is itself an indication of extreme action, excessive force, headstrong aggression, and once again, "going to extremes.")

In the Columbia chart Jupiter is stressed by the compelling oppositions from the Aquarius 12th House / Ascendant stellium. (Jupiter oppositions of this sort often indicate "taking on more than you can handle," making promises you either cannot or will not later fulfill. There is also frequently a philosophical self-righteousness in Jupiter oppositions, a crusading mentality that is so full of itself it's unwilling to listen to reason.)

In the Challenger chart, Mars is the planet of latest degree (the planet in the latest degree of its sign in the chart.) Planets of latest degree are, by definition void of course, and in an individual's chart often show qualities that are overly developed, exaggerated, and unusually prominent in the native's character. An afflicted Mars in Scorpio is an ominous indication of possible fatality here.

In the Columbia chart, Mars is approaching a combustible conjunction to afflicted Pluto and is itself conjunct the 10th House cusp of this chart. In this chart the planet of latest degree is volatile Uranus.
