Your horoscope is a map of the sky plotted at the moment you were born in the place you were born, showing the positions of the relevant astral bodies in the sky and their relationship to each other. It is the star chart astrologers read to determine an individual's character and forecast the future trends of life.

Physically, the horoscope chart is a circle divided into twelve segments, one for each sign of the Zodiac. As a circle contains 360°, each segment allotted to a sign contains 30° (from 0° through 29°). Each of the twelve segments is also called a "house" ... and each house deals with a specific area of a person's life.

As if to confuse matters further, a horoscope chart is "backwards" from the way we traditionally read a map. North is in the bottom of the chart; south in the top; west is the right half of the circle; east is left. And the sequence of houses, numbered 1 through 12 progresses in a counter-clockwise direction around the chart.
