Yods are a distinctive pattern of aspects created when two planets (or placements such as the Ascendant or Mid-Heaven) which are sextile to one another also are both inconjunct to a third planet / placement ... which then forms the base of a "Y" configuration. On paper, in a Natal Chart for instance, the Y-shape of a yod is quite distinctive. Its meaning is, as well, though for a long time it was overlooked -- even ignored as having any significance.

You've heard of a Grand Trine ... and a T-Square ... and probably a Grand Cross. These are all patterns in Astrology that are not real common, but not real rare either. Each represents a complex configuration of energy. Each has its own problems and potentials. All can be memorable -- whether in a Natal Chart or just passing overhead in the sky.

T-Squares
When Life Regularly Turns Up the Heat

A T-square is a very active but highly uncomfortable pattern which consists of an opposition between two or more planets and a third planet placed at a point square to these. This combines all the difficulties of an opposition (relationship problems and blockages) with the complications of a square (both elements of the opposition being hindered, aggravated, frustrated, stimulated, or pushed by demands from the metaphorical components of the energy represented by the planet forming the square.)

Essentially in a T-square pattern there is an individual (or event) with a built-in relationship challenge -- or clear issues in dealings with other people -- simultaneously stressed by demands from a third area of his life which are antagonistic to both the qualities he owns and the qualities he likely projects onto other people.
