The Ninth Sign ... Exploring New Horizons

Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the Zodiac. It follows Scorpio in the Zodiacal line-up. As a rule, the range of Sagittarius covers the time from November 22nd until December 21st. It is a time of expansion, growth, and intellectual development.

It is associated with higher education, the study of foreign ideas and concepts, the codification of philosophy into ethics, principles, legislation, and religious dogma. Sagittarius is involved with writing, publishing, lecturing, and "preaching."

The Zodiacal symbol for Sagittarius is the Centaur. Sagittarius is the Mutable Fire sign. Fire signs are charismatic, courageous, managerial, and confident. Mutable signs are associated with flexibility, adaptability, and invention.

Sagittarius natives combine these qualities into characters that are intellectual, eclectic in their outlook, and able to incorporate new knowledge and "foreign ideas" into more workable and inclusive social opinions. Sagittarius souls help us all build a more tolerant, just, and moral society.

They deal with life's problems by making compromises, adjusting to their new situation, and being able to modify themselves and their responses to fit the change in circumstances. The other Mutable signs are Virgo, Gemini, and Pisces. The other Fire signs are Aries and Leo.

Physically, Sagittarius rules the hips. The ruling planet of Sagittarius is Jupiter. Sagittarius is associated with the color hunter green. The starstone (not the birthstone) assigned to Sagittarius is the topaz.
