The Assassination of Benazir Bhutto

Occasionally life presents me with headline making events that illustrate with eerie accuracy some of what I've been writing about in the day-in-day-out tracking of the celestial citizens in their movements -- the information served up several times a week in the issues of Step by Step. Saddam Hussein's chart clearly showed the grim path his life was taking as the days ticked off to his execution a year ago yesterday. I made a passing mention of this in one issue -- around the time his death sentence was passed.

If your placement is in Taurus ... confrontation in your relationships or from other people may force changes on you ... ready or not. (Saddam Hussein with Natal Sun / Uranus in Taurus at 9° and Mercury in Taurus at 25° got an example yesterday of what this formidable opposition-in-Scorpio energy can mean ... under the right conditions. Let's hope if you're a Taurus, the challenges you face during this time are somewhat kinder.)

Beyond that, it seemed just too ghoulish to keep track of what was happening, even from a distance and on paper. So I let it go at that. But the assassination of Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto this past week-end, brought yet another real-life example of astrology--in-action. And perhaps it is sufficiently remote and final that we can examine it calmly. The charts involved provide a striking picture of what "life altering" -- a phrase I've used repeatedly with the recent Jupiter / Pluto conjunction material I've sent -- can mean ... quite literally! So here goes.

For visual purposes, I've cast these charts with Bhutto's Sun on the Ascendant -- which places all this Capricorn energy in the 7th House of the charts. Bhutto's Natal Chart is the constellation in the inner circle. The transits on December 27 are contained in the outer circle. Have a look at the cluster of planets around and just under the 9 o'clock position of this chart (Bhutto's Natal placements) with her Natal Sun / Mars conjunct retrograde Mars in transit ... and the major opposition cluster of planets around the 3 o'clock position (including the Jupiter / Pluto conjunction at the cusp of Sagittarius / Capricorn). Yes, indeed, that's what astrologer's mean by "an opposition." (!!!)

Note: We also have a Moon / Pluto conjunction at the time she was killed opposing Neptune ... and transiting Venus just past an opposition to Natal Venus.

Bhutto's birthday -- June 21, 1953 -- shows the Sun / Mars conjunction in her Natal Chart at the cusp of Gemini / Cancer, one of the "touchy points" I mentioned just a few days ago when I wrote:

The Sun conjunct to Pluto is a time of physical and spiritual rebirth ... even more powerful than that of your Solar Return for whatever house -- and affairs -- are affected by this compelling aspect. It marks a time of cutting away and discarding an old way of life and being reborn into new and better conditions. It can also be a point of transition and upheaval -- with all the attendant chaos.

When Mercury opposes Mars it forecasts a tense, touchy climate where disagreements are common enough to be unavoidable ... and nasty enough to cause permanent damage. A lot of "in retrospect fence-mending" goes on after this temperamental aspect dissolves ... but the harm done in haste and thoughtlessness while it's around takes a long time to go away. Sometimes it never does.

It also coincides with a quickness to take offense at what someone else has said or done ... with a retaliation far in excess to whatever provoked it. The impulsiveness and hair-trigger temper that goes with this pattern coincides with harsh, unfair comments and accusations ... and knee-jerk behavior whose consequences are hard to contain and impossible, of course, to recall. People (you included) are in no mood to listen to debate (or even sensible discussion) ... or hear "another point of view" -- even on points that aren't especially important. Forget about anything resembling a free exchange of ideas for a while.

Complex problems with many dimensions cannot be handled effectively ... and the simplistic answers that come forth not only won't fix the situation -- even they won't get a fair hearing. This opposition represents intellectual discomfort of a very mean-spirited kind ... and you'd do well to put off saying anything provocative ... or getting involved in contracts or conditions where conflict would be dangerous. Treat this time the way you would Mercury Retrograde ... but exercise even more caution.

You may have enough sense to hold your tongue and wait for cooler heads to prevail -- and less electrifying conditions. But you're only part of the overall equation ... and "the other guy" may not have your maturity, your perspective, or your patience!!

Aggression comes to the surface quickly ... and hypersensitive egos can be too easily bruised, leading to reactions in everything from sharp words to physical blows ... to worse. This energy contains a desire for power ... that is willing to do pretty much whatever it takes to get its own way. It is willful, temperamental, and often unreasonable, preferring coercion and force over diplomacy ... because, as a rule, those tactics get results quicker.

People everywhere seem to be spoiling for a fight, a confrontation, a situation where they can push their points -- or their advantages -- and not back down. Because there is a definite sexual component in this combination, matters of jealousy, inflated pride, and machismo are often on display. Quarrels break out. Insults are traded. Even blows are struck. Everyone is in a prickly, impulsive, pugnacious mood ... and unless you're really ready to take on whatever trouble you can stir up with your attitude or smart remarks, you might want to stay out of the way until this rambunctiousness settles down and the world cools off a little.

If you have Natal Chart placements near 0 - 4° of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn, this pattern forecasts some major activity in your life as changes in one particular sector of your overall direction ripple out and jangle existing arrangements, ambitions, needs, and situations in other -- competing -- areas of your world. Further details on this, of course, are described by the symbolism of these transiting planets, your extra Natal Chart placement, the signs involved, and the houses where all these celestial citizens now reside.

Wherever this pattern falls in your Natal Chart, you are on the brink of a major change of self-image, ideas and opinions, ambitions, "expansion plans," and vastly altered conditions (which may precipitate a crisis of no small dimensions, depending on how sweeping a change you and your Higher Self intend to make at this point ... and for the next several years) in the affairs of the Natal Chart house that holds this immensely important Karmic conjunction of Mercury, The Sun, Jupiter, and Pluto. First of all, though ... and for several months into the future ... you will have to cope with formidable "opposition" from partners, "other people," and life conditions whose interests aren't compatible with these changes in you ... whatsoever. These "problems," delays, and frustrations will come from the affairs of the Natal Chart house that holds transiting (and retrograde) Mars -- and will likely appear as disagreements or conflicts with other people.

Certainly getting shot dead ... or blown up in a deliberate explosion ... whatever they decide actually happened to her, would qualify as "disagreements and conflicts with other people" in anyone's mind. And it's interesting to go back and revisit these analyses with the benefit of hindsight and the real-life examples, which I said in the beginning, are sometimes too stark and graphic to miss.

Of course, not everyone born on June 21, 1953 died on December 27, 2007. (Let's face it. Some didn't even make it that far.) So this is also a demonstration of how much choices and free will operate in everyone's life. What I do know is ... everyone born around June 21, 1953 is dealing with substantial "relationship problems" at the moment ... and thankfully many (let's hope most -- !!!) will find different, gentler ways to resolve them.
