I think of the various planet placements in a Natal Chart as members of your Inner Family. I often refer to them that way when I write ... and it's a valid analogy. It's also an amazing and helpful technique. It helps you respect the various components of your character. It lets you watch the dynamics of your character facets at work. It even helps you develop your interpersonal negotiating and communications skills. It's absolutely possible to talk to and listen to these various pieces of yourself as if they were separate and distinct persons. It's a marvelous way to understand and integrate the complexities of your own personality with its various and sometimes conflicting requirements.

And this technique does indeed help you understand, visualize and sympathize with what's going on when two or more planets interact, which of course depicts interaction between two or more facets of yourself. It works nicely when they're working to support each other -- and knowing what's in the works helps you help the magic happen, and it is especially helpful when their relationship is uncomfortable, and you have to somehow work with the stress and conflict inside you -- and between you and the outside world.

Interestingly, there are times when doing this seems to kind of "take me out of the equation" ... in a positive way. I can stop feeling torn and conflicted. I can give up my ego investment in one side or other of the problem. I can see better the role "other people" seem to play in the unfolding drama of my life -- and realize these are almost always projections of stuff going on inside me. I can look at the situation more dispassionately ... the way I would as a counselor or just an observer ... and study what's happening the way I would the interaction between two people who are either helpful to one another or who have decided to be at odds.
