Oppositions are angles of 180° between two or more planets ... directly across from one another in the circle of the horoscope.

Oppositions are an aspect of blockage, frustration, and challenge. They represent the tension you must handle when other people's needs and agendas (particularly those in your close partnerships) conflict directly and sharply with your own. As the very description in the word suggests, oppositions represent a power struggle between two antagonistic agendas in your life ... yours -- and someone else's.

Oppositions contain elements of "disowned qualities" which other people are forcing you to confront and reintegrate into your character and life strategies. They can be very uncomfortable and upsetting as "in reality" it may look and feel like somebody else is forcing you to respond in ways that are not comfortable or characteristic for you. But an analysis of the actual dynamics of the situation will show you are trying to accommodate two conflicting (and possibly mutually exclusive) needs ... one that is familiar to you, and one that's not.

Oppositions, therefore, mark a time of growth and diversification in your life ... and if you know enough, are wise enough, and / or patient enough to really observe what is going on, your antagonist is showing you the personal qualities you need to develop and fortify in your own character in order to be more complete, more effective, and possibly better able to defend yourself in similar experiences in the future.
