An inexact, but nevertheless perfectly valid Grand Cross in Fixed Signs has formed in the sky between The Sun in Scorpio opposing retrograde Mars in Taurus ... square to the more loosely formed opposition between Saturn in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius.

Squares and oppositions are always complex, volatile, irritating ... and offer plenty of invitation to point your finger at someone who is causing you grief and upset. (Oppositions in particular involve projected energy ... and projections are unavoidably tricky and confusing. They involve disowned elements of your own personality mirrored back to you by experiences and "other people" in the outside world -- in an effort to get you to take responsibility for and own the projected energy again.)

A Grand Cross in Fixed Signs is one of the most infuriating, intransigent patterns in Astrology ... because it presents you with people who seem "immoveable and uncompromising" in their treatment of you ... and attitudes that are perceived as implacable, antagonistic, mean-spirited, and entrenched.

Fixed Signs are notoriously unwilling to compromise. They dig in, fortify their positions, stubbornly resist negotiation, and vow to "hold out to the last man." And yet the situations involved will be ones in which compromise is absolutely essential. Any other choice amounts to mutual suicide.

This is a complicated pattern, some of whose elements forecast long, drawn-out ramifications with serious Karmic consequences. (Specifically the Saturn / Neptune opposition which hasn't yet become exact ... an event that will happen next year ... forecasts serious business and political problems and a major reality check waiting in the wings to set a very uncomfortable tone in world events in the coming year.)
