Mars in Cancer is indirect and subtle even at the best of times. When Mars is retrograde, the "action" in life goes even more underground, becoming so private and quiet it's virtually hidden. But that doesn't mean there's not a lot going on. It does mean you will be more aware of changes and shifts within you, ones happening on a psychological level, more than through anything you can show with evidence in the outer world.

Inner "course corrections" like this, however, eventually do show themselves in the outer world, of course, often with surprising vigor and flair -- once Mars moves on into flamboyant Leo. In fact, it may be quite surprising, because all this preparation work happening "behind the scenes" while Mars retrogrades in Cancer produces spectacular, polished, "finished" results ... once the show that's been so long in rehearsal moves out onto the public stage.
