A Saturn Return is literally a time when Saturn returns (hence the name) to the place it occupied in the sky when you were born. Saturn takes about two and a quarter to two and a half years to make a trip through one sign of the Zodiac ... and since there are twelve of them before it returns to the place of its beginnings, Saturn returns occur about every 28 to 30 years. This is another way in which cultural milestones and developmental astrological milestones are out of synch with one another.

We point to the Age of Majority in our culture as being around the time a person is 18 to 21 years old ... and yet Astrology indicates that this degree of wisdom, vision, and the ability to assume and act on the heavy responsibilities of adulthood really doesn't occur for another 10 to 12 years ... which is what your first Saturn return is all about. Then we tell people it's time to think about retiring -- or being put out to pasture -- and playing golf for the rest of their lives, when about 5 to 7 years earlier they just got a firm fix on what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
