Neptune, named for the mythological god of the sea, is the astrological metaphor which symbolizes what may be the most mysterious and elusive of the inner selves the discipline contains. There is, after all, within each of us an inner self with a deep need to be quiet and reflective, to be sensitive in all meanings of the word, to be compassionate, creative and visionary.

This inner expression of soul (literally) is self-sacrificing and inspirational. It deals with religious issues that are felt inwardly with the heart and spirit rather than through tenets of philosophy and theology. It represents your connection to your own Higher Self, your personal relationship with the Divine Creative Source and with non-physical states of reality.

This part of yourself has to do with idealism and faith -- particularly the kind that come from deep subconscious emotions. It most often speaks to you through fantasy, dreams, creative channels, inner promptings, psychic experiences, mystical moments, epiphanies, and episodes of inspirational insight. It exists in your capacity for imagination, your subconscious motivations -- very nebulous moments such as that.
