We often speak colloquially of the New Moon as that tiny sliver of light in the night sky that will progress over the next month to create the bright circle of the Full Moon and then diminish gradually to a tiny sliver of light curving in the opposite direction before the process begins again.

The aspect of the Sun opposing the Moon is the classic celestial phenomenon the rest of the world calls the Full Moon. The Full Moon symbolically highlights tension between two conflicting desires, ambitions, requirements, or sets of values -- each a respected and necessary part of life, and each somehow problematic for the other.

It's a subtle difference, I admit, but it's there nevertheless. Life's psychological rhythm has a different sequence, depending on whether the New Moon in a particular sign forms first, followed about two weeks later by the Full Moon in that same sign ... or whether the Full Moon forms first, followed then by the New Moon in that sign.

Knowing where to put your attention and when simply helps you navigate your way through life's currents, eddies and slipstreams more easily. So, this is a situation where "details count" ... and so do the nuances of where Life's energy is trying to lead you -- and the rest of us.

The New Moon Phase begins at the conjunction of Sun and Moon, an event that occurs every month (sometimes twice in a month) and always, by definition, in the Astrological sign through which the Sun is currently passing. To give a brief explanation: the Moon points to a basic emotional need. Remember this, for it will help you understand your needs rather than your wants. For example: Moon in Cancer gives the emotional need for home and family, in Taurus for roots and stability. These are needs and when understood can help cope with those moments of depression (which the Moon also rules) when your needs are not being met.
