Scientists fired Pluto from our solar system last week. Actually, downsizing Pluto to "dwarf planet" status is a faux pas when considering political correctness. Demoted because of size goes against everything we, as a nation, stand for. The problems with this unexpected turn of events are farther reaching than most people are aware.

The greatest consequence is how the absence of Pluto is going to affect our natal charts. A natal chart, for those untrained in this scientific field, is another name for our astrological charts. Each planet from our solar system rules an astrological sign. Pluto rules Scorpio. My son is a Scorpio. Will this change his personality or life path? Which planet will receive Pluto's outsourced Scorpios?

Giovanni Piazzi discovered Pluto in 1801. Scientists reclassified Pluto last week. Is it possible Scorpios are less explosive and abrasive than astrologers have led us to believe over the last two centuries? As a parent of a Scorpio, I hope so. Pluto governs the reproductive system. I hope that with the change in Pluto's status, my son will not be responsible for as many unplanned pregnancies as predicted.

Worst-case scenario: Will all Scorpios vanish in a puff of logic?

Glib scientists celebrate the triumph of science over sentiment. Apparently, science is self-correcting. This opens the door to many possibilities of inaccurate scientific labeling. Is it possible that a tomato is a vegetable after all? Is smoking healthier than previously acknowledged? Can women really use the bathroom unaccompanied by other females? Most important of all, can men be taught to put the toilet seat down when finished or to ask for directions when lost? Previously accepted theories no longer can be trusted.

Astrologers define Pluto as the planet of power, transformation, regeneration and rebirth. Pluto's mantra is "out with the old and in with the new." Obviously, Pluto's fall from grace is self-imposed. Pluto has powerfully transformed and regenerated itself into dwarfism and out of planetdom.

Looking at the other side of this issue also raises questions. Can the dwarf planet Xena, who recently came out of her dwarfish closet, team up with Pluto to kick Mars' butt? If so, will Hollywood steal the idea and make a mini-series? Most of all, can we rename Uranus saving it from a lifetime of embarrassment?

Sadness overwhelms me at the thought of losing our distant friend. My son finds this whole situation boring (how Plutonian) and prefers the happiness of exploring the Earth. Who knows? Someday while speaking about the good old days to his grandchildren he may bring up Pluto and watch their eyes reflect the fact that science betrayed us.
