The Magic of Stones
A visitor to The Old Curiosity Stop asks:
There are 'crystals' and stones and the energies of that...and then there are 'STONES' that have...shamanic powers, blessed by Tibetan Buddhist Monks, have been sitting on blessed alters for years...Shamans have used in ritual, fairy stone energy, dragon stones, dragon coins of Tibet, 'magical' things...
Question: I believe what I believe...and I believe that what a person believes 'works' for the person...that's their own magic...positive energy, if you will. Belief can cause 'miracles to occur.
Curious what 'you' believe...you think...(outside of the basic crystal/stone energy)...about such items?

The curator answers:
Like you, I also believe that a person's "faith" in inanimate objects can endow those objects with a certain power and energy they wouldn't have had otherwise -- and don't necessarily have "naturally." I also used to believe that the "energy" ascribed to things like stones, plants, etc. was so much hokum. I also used to have absolutely NO faith in things like herbal medicine, acupuncture, or Tarot cards. I have, through the years, and through first hand experience, been shown the error of my ways. (smile.)

When I first heard of the concept of talking to plants in order to make them flourish ... or the concept of "praying" over crop fields to help insure a bountiful harvest (and the fact that studies were indicating this seemed to work!!), ... well, to call my reaction scornful ... is putting it mildly.
But I've seen -- and personally demonstrated -- too many instances of thoughts making a difference in the affairs of life ... and the benefits (or problems) found there ... to keep denying the evidence. At this point in my life I've come around to the Oriental view that everything ... absolutely everything ... has its own "energy." That all things are, in fact, composed of energy. Following that to a natural conclusion, some objects ... and some people ... may have a natural affinity (even affection, if you will) for one another. Hence, the concept of "personal totems."
After years of scoffing at the idea of useful "power" in things like crystals, stones, jewels, etc., I've worn a Herkimer diamond for the past couple of years. Constantly. The same way I wear my watch. Neither of them come off, even at night. Have I noticed a sharp rise in my intuition and psychic sensitivity in that time? Yes. Could it be because I'm concentrating specifically on developing that ... with or without the "aid" of the stone? Yes. Could there be a connection to the fact that I'm working on that AND have decided to start wearing this stone? Yes.
Do I notice a difference -- a decline in this sensitivity I feel is developing -- when I DO take off the stone for any length of time? Yes. Do I find all this interesting? Yes. Does it scare me a little? Yes. Could it all be "in my head?" Yes.
I don't for a moment believe ALL my progress (or my continuing progress) is attached to this stone. But I do think it's possible that it helps. I do plan to keep wearing it.
As for the stones that have been blessed and kept in sacred places for a long time ... I think it's entirely reasonable to believe that the positive feelings, energy, affection, and reverence people have directed toward these objects through the years may have given them a fair amount of additional enhancement ... more energy, better energy ... than would have been the case otherwise. Much the same way that living things develop and thrive with love and attention. Did the stones themselves play a part in attracting this attention? Very possibly.
I'm at least willing to consider the possible truth of everything I've said ... and read, work to prove it to myself one way or another ... and keep an open mind.
Let's see ... what was that story again about the Apostle Paul and the Road to Damascus???

Addendum
Just thought it was funny...I submitted the question to you, and on that 'submission' page was this quote..."One person with a belief is equal to a force of ninety-nine who have only interests." Did I answer my own question...or did you with that quote?:):):)

I love synchronicities!! Don't you?
