There are few jobs harder than those of single moms who juggle incredible tasks, bring home the bacon, and find time to give the kiddies the love and care they need. They do the impossible every day and get very little gratitude expressed to them for what they are able to pull off.

But the stress of being super mom, super employee, super financial wizard, car pool driver, soccer mom, arbitrator, holiday and party planner, etc. can really be wearing and demanding. So many single moms are pouring it all out and getting very little poured in to fill the cup.

Predators are watchful people. They make it their business to see some sign of weakness, some sign of vulnerability. And they place themselves in situations where they can be seen as wise, supportive, caring, and willing to take on some of the single mom™s responsibility.

They can be boy scout leaders, teachers, coaches, priests, ministers, doctors and just about anyone who can insinuate into your life and become your friend, benefactor, and even your lover. They are so wonderful with your kids and you feel relieved that someone is taking an interest and sharing the burden.

A little shock wave should go through you when someone enters your life who seems too good to be true. They are too fascinated with your family too quickly. They seem to know what is needed, what to offer, what to suggest, and how to give great advice about how children can benefit so much from positive experiences. They are tons of fun with your kids who usually start to worship them quickly.

I treated several pedophiles while I was a clinical counselor and although I always tried to treat all patients with unconditional positive regard, these people really tested me. . I remember one man in his thirties, John, who came in for therapy in order to keep his marriage. His wife suspected what he was doing but did not openly confront him.

She told him he needed help. John had the irresistible impulse to touch little girls under the age of eight. He had a motorcycle and would get a lot of attention when he would go visit friends who had children. Invariably, little girls would want to sit on the motorcycle with him and he would position them right in front of him where he could rub up against them.

His friends were so caught up in the fascination with the expensive motorcycle that they never noticed anything was wrong. And the little girls usually did not get upset because John was so friendly, laughing, making jokes, and bringing them candy treats.

John knew that what he was doing was wrong but he had no intention of giving it up. He was a sales person and had many opportunities to be around families. To my knowledge, he had not progressed to anything beyond the supposed accidental brushing up against these girls.
