If providing the right atmosphere for the joyous existence of Chi is the key to creating more happiness in your own life, there are several simple principles to keep in mind. First of all, think of the flow of Chi the way you would the flow of air.
It is meant to be flexible, unimpeded, buoyant, refreshing ... and fresh. It does, indeed, need to be able to flow freely ... and whatever hinders that creates before long the dank, stale conditions you associate with a stuffy room or worse, the "sick air" that is recycled over and over and over on airplanes -- increasing dramatically the chances you'll wind up with some bug brought to the party by one of your fellow travellers on a long flight.
Chi needs to move in and out of your space pretty much at will -- in harmony with its nature, and therefore we also need to smooth out the rough edges that injure, hinder, or prevent this easy, nourishing flow from wandering gracefully through our spaces and our lives, leaving its magic behind for us to enjoy. If friendly Chi is a wonderful thing to live in, a place where we thrive and prosper, blocking it up -- even unconsciously -- creates the stagnant, clogged conditions that soon have us living in a swamp.
