Getting in the Flow
With Water Features

Water is a complex element, and in feng shui this allows it to potentially fulfill several functions -- or provide several benefits -- at the same time. Water in feng shui is both calming and invigorating. No matter which direction you need to go, manipulating water energy in your surroundings can help you get there.

Waterfalls or water fountains by motion and by sound activate chi. Flowing water gets things going, stirs things up, and clears out the residue of chi that has been stagnant for a while. Moving water boosts both water and wood energy.

Adding a suitable water feature to the dæcopy;cor of almost any room helps you humidify the area (another thing that supports the vitality of chi). If your water feature has movement of water in a specific direction, be sure this movement is toward the interior of your living space, not away from it. You don't want to send valuable chi energy literally "out the door."

A fountain or aquarium works best in the career or wealth areas of your home. Be sure to keep these clean and in good working order. Stagnant or polluted water chi is not the message you want to be sending to the invisible aids and elements in your life. Coins in the fountain ... or aquarium are also potent symbols of wealth and increase. Nine of these is an auspicious number.

If you're putting these in an aquarium, be sure the metal in them won't interact with the water or chemicals to harm the aquarium's inhabitants.
