In Feng Shui, houses and individual rooms (and offices) are mapped into grids with eight different sections of life and interest thus contained in the template known as the Bagua Map. This word originates in the I Ching where the basic units, known as trigrams, are associated with specific treasures of life.

When the grid of the Bagua Map is overlaid on the floor plan of a room or building, every part of that structure is then assigned (or perhaps endowed with) importance and purpose. Changing or enhancing certain portions of your environment according to this plan, is like a ritual to produce specific changes and results.

Again, the theory behind this involves the flow of Chi, which is the movement of energy through our physical world -- and then metaphorically through our greater lives and its experiences. This is the same principle upon which the practice of acupuncture is based as it relates to physical well-being.
