Bright and Reflective Objects to Enhance Your Prosperity

In traditional Chinese Feng Shui the use or avoidance of mirrors as well as the careful placement of bright objects is said to enhance the energy of the space.

All kinds of bright objects such as glass, mirrors, crystals and anything with a reflective surface can be used to bring light into dark spaces. Corners are particularly important as they tend to trap and stagnate energy, just like an eddy in a stream. The light will keep that energy flowing

Coloured bottles in a window shelf can draw light into a bathroom or kitchen. A large mirror over a fire place will open the space, reflect the fire light and reduce the closed in effect. In many cold climates it is sensible to have small windows to reduce heat loss, but the effect is to close the room in. Here mirrors are used to maximize the available light.

A chandelier while perhaps a bit overdone in most homes has an effect of lifting the energy of the occupants, and draws people to that part of the room.

Mirrors

Mirrored wardrobe doors in a bedroom and considered bad Feng Shui. The reflected energy can cause sleep problems. When sleeping you need your energy to be passive, mirrors enhance energy so take care with their placement!

Mirrors should be clean and whole, that is mirror tiles or broken mirrors will disturb your energy. Old mirrors which are damaged should not be used. It is ideal if your mirror can reflect some pleasant natural image in from the outside.

Make sure your mirrors give a true reflection, that is, there is no distortion of your image. This is important as your mirror is where you see yourself daily and for better or worse make judgements about yourself.

Mirrors are excellent in small spaces as they create an illusion of space, quite a useful tactic in cramped living spaces. By expanding the energy in a space you can be opened up to new opportunities and renewed prosperity.

Water

Water is also an important energy reflector. A well placed water feature placed near a window can be used to draw the energising morning light into a room. We all know how good it feels to sit in the warmth of the low winter sunlight. Water can enhance this welcoming feeling.

Of course a misplaced swimming pool can throw disturbing bright light into a home, causing visual disturbance, increased heat and the need to close the room to this light.

Walk around your home, how do the spaces feel which already have mirrors or bright objects? Test some placements of mirrors or reflective glass in a variety of places, leave them for a few days to test how you feel. Feng Shui operates within a series of guidelines, but it's you who has to live with it, so test it and see.
