Feng Shui and Your Health

Tools for Creating Inner Peace
With so much uncomfortable change going on around us, it's easy to buy into the fear of the wounded ego. Your wounded ego is that voice inside that pulls you into the drama of distress, frustration, anxiety, struggle, and confusion. It keeps you paralyzed in fear and robs you of your personal power.
Just as a key unlocks a door, dropping out of your head and into your heart is the key to inner peace. Below are some keys I have found for opening the door of peace within.

The Feng Shui of Restaurants
Have you ever considered the feng shui of restaurants. The people who design the places where we eat out probably don't say -- may not even know -- that they're using feng shui principles to accomplish their goals, but they are. Take fast food restaurants, for instance. They're part of the landscape of our lives ... and many of us eat at least one meal in one of them weekly, if not every day for lunch!

Creating a Peaceful Home in Turbulent Times
In times of stress and difficulty, home becomes more important to our sense of well-being. We look to our home to provide a sensory reprieve that allows us to unplug from the stresses of the outside world. In turbulent times, we especially yearn for a serene space.
However, creating a calming home isn't as easy as it seems. That's because the elements of a serene space aren't always obvious. Only certain elements create a calming and relaxing atmosphere. What are they? Below are the six elements that create a calm, serene environment.

Heal Your Home Clean
How deep cleaning can create -- a turnaround in the health of -- your home and your enjoyment of it
Every now and then a story in the newspaper pops up about a sick building. The structure may be overgrown with mold or suffer from an abundance of radon gas. Fortunately most homes don't have these kinds of afflictions, but many of them are sick. But, what they do suffer from is a lack of true, thorough cleaning and repair.
In the rush to get the next project done, ferry kids to soccer practice, or handle some household emergency, our homes suffer from attention deficit. That is, we don't spend enough time with them simply making them clean and keeping them in good order. Sure, we pick up the big stuff, and the dishes get into the dishwasher, but when was the last time your home had your undivided attention? Can't remember? If so, you might have a sick house on your hands.

The Hauntings of Long Island
Can Homes REALLY be Haunted?
It seems everyone knows of a "ghost" story they have heard. While some are ardent disbelievers the ones who have experienced some very unusual and very disturbing things in their homes are no longer disbelievers. Increasingly my calls for Feng Shui include more then just changing the Energy to increase wealth or find a partner or career. About one in ten of them these days are for the Blessings, to help rid the home of what some of the occupants are experiencing.
Still others are reluctant to discuss it; however, when the question comes up of "Do you see, hear or feel anything unusual in the home?" there is often dead silence. They are reluctant to discuss things that they are uncomfortable with for fear they won't be believed or I may think them foolish or "crazy."

Feng Shui Tips for Beating the Winter Doldrums
Some people love this time of year. The leaves are changing color, the heat of the summer is gone and there's a bit of a brisk chill in the air. Others see it as the beginning of the end with the Winter coming. Cold weather, ice and snow and decreasing sunlight with the days getting shorter and the nights becoming very long.
People begin to lack energy, stay in more and, just like some animals, literally go into hibernation. Others actually suffer depression from it and get what is called SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. Doctors recommend medications for those that get depressed but what can you do to stop the depression before it actually sets in?

Feng Shui as a Path to Personal Growth
One very valuable aspect of Feng shui is that it has a tendency to bring new opportunities and relationships that encourage us to relinquish ineffective behaviors and stretch outside our comfort zones.
While this is not always comfortable, it can be powerfully transforming if we rise to the challenges presented by these opportunities. When we don't, choosing instead to remain safely sheltered by familiar behaviors and attitudes, we block the transformative power of feng shui and the significant transitions we'd hoped for often don't materialize.

Balancing the Beams
Feng Shui and the Architectural Challenge
of Exposed Ceiling Beams
The look of exposed beams in a home can be a stunning architectural feature. One look and it's easy to see why they are so popular. I like them myself. But in feng shui, exposed ceiling beams can be tricky. They can disrupt the flow of chi in a room and the line of an exposed beam cutting across your body while you're sleeping is especially worrisome.
Exposed beams in other parts of the house, such as a living room or den seem to pose less of a feng shui problem. The time a person spends directly under a beam line seems to be a big part of the issue. Hence the reason why bedroom beams are troublesome -- because you spend 1/3 of your day directly under them without really moving much.
