The human body is a very impressive biocomputer. It's difficult to imagine, but real nonetheless - 100 trillion cells communicating with our brain 24 hours per day. Awesome!!

When any part of our body is ill, it sends a message to the brain. The brain analyzes the problem and initiates corrective action, mobilizing available resources to bring us back to good health. Many of us are not too pleased with the fact that the message comes in the form of pain.

The more urgent the message, the more severe the pain. It would be hard to imagine a person who could walk around in severe pain and do nothing about it. Fact is, severe pain is a demand for action and we always take that action immediately (even if we have to leave the conference room in the middle of a meeting with the President of the company).

So, what happens when it's not your body but your mind that is ill - suffering mental distress? Is there a "pain" that tells us our mind needs attention? Of course there is - it's called unhappiness. If I'm unhappy, it's a call to action just as sure as pain is.

There is however, a significant difference between them. If pain is severe, there is no way to ignore it, we take action. Unfortunately, some of us learn to ignore unhappiness. To some poor devils, it becomes a daily companion.

Habitualization is a wonderful survival tool, used by humans for millions of years, but it is an outrageous abuse of this wonderful survival technique when we let unhappiness become a habit. It is almost impossible to habitualize ourselves to pain, but quite easy to habitualize a low dull unhappiness.

Nature took a long time (millions of years) developing these message systems to help us. It expects us to respond when we feel either physical pain or mental distress.

Take action!! Do something right now!! It's part of the plan, man.
