This essence is for those with a strong imagination, a powerful connection to their inner life, and for whom the ability to visualize and dream is well-developed. Fundamentally, this essence deals with the soul potential of creative idealism ... but in the personality that needs the restoration Clematis provides, the capacities of this inner world have overwhelmed the ability to deal with outer reality.

The concrete, physical world may have little meaning and hold virtually no interest for this person. The personality is caught in a fantasy dreamland of possibilities and lacks the grounding that reconnects spirit to a physical and emotional attachment to the here-and-now.

Given the power of the mind and imagination it may be hard to grasp how this might be a problem, but the talents of Clematis people (which are extensive indeed) go largely unfulfilled. Physical illness is common -- and debilitating, because the spirit is so permeable and resistance so depleted. Ego may not defend well against that which is "not it" ... because the concentration of personal attention is so diffuse. The immune system doesn't recognize the danger of an invader well enough to repel it.

The personality may be drawn to addictive, mind-altering drugs as a way to extend the boundaries of the world it occupies. There is no constructive channel into the physical world for the creative impulses. Common ground for understanding between the Clematis person and other people is lacking ... and relationships are strained, to tenuous, to non-existent.

Clematis people are spacey, lost in daydreams, and socially awkward. They aren't interested in other or in material reality. They are lost inside the territory of their own thoughts. They may consider "reality" too painful to deal with much ... and so they travel a kind of borderland between two worlds.

They don't seem able to cope with practical problems ... and drift through life with a strange, indifferent air. Physical energy levels are low. Fatigue is common. Memory is poor ... and so is bodily coordination. Attention span is flimsy ... and perhaps because of this, he is accident prone. He falls asleep easily and seems to sleep a lot. Aggressive attitudes are missing ... but so it seems, is the self-preservation instinct. Moods are constantly "mellow" and unconcerned.

The Clematis personal seems to have withdrawn from life's involvements without actually committing suicide. There may be a vague sense of sorrow or suspension connected with their character ... almost as if they are passively waiting out their time in this life and anticipating the next with only mild hope of improvements there.
