The person in need of Basil has failed to integrate the components of sexuality and spirituality into their intended sacred unity. The result is the polarization of these energies ... and the intellectual posture that they are exclusive. In other words, one feels unable to be sexual and spiritual at the same time.

This is the familiar "saint or sinner" paradox applied exclusively to sexual energy. It often leads to furtive coping behaviors to deal with "unacceptable impulses" ... and can bring on serious disruption in the personality and in relationships.

Often, this will manifest as a compulsion for sexual contact beyond that offered by the significant other in the partnership.
