I stumbled across your site by accident about a year ago and admit to being a skeptic. Over the last year or so I have been stunned by the accuracy of your tarot predictions each week. This Sunday's prediction was for the end to financial hardship. On Monday I received an offer of employment which arrived after over a year of unemployment due to illness. Not only was it a job for which I am well qualified, but also a 40% pay increase over what I was earning before I became unwell, and working in an industry I had never before considered. This not the first time you have been correct -- you've predicted major arguments, frustrations, and unexpected travel. I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't more to tarot than meets the eye!

The dog days of summer call out for icy cold refreshment. What better way to rehydrate yourself than with one of these traditional summer drinks?
Iced Tea
Tea has been served cold in America since at least the early 1800s when green tea punches, often heavily spiked, were popular. Prior to 1900, the black teas of India and Ceylon were largely unknown to most Americans.
A typical recipe of the day (1839) says that the punch could be served hot or cold, although at that time, cold was more likely room temperature. "Iced" tea, of course, was possible once refrigeration (or at the very least, ice boxes) was more common, beginning in the early 20th century.
In the extremely hot summer of 1904, at the St. Louis World's Fair, India Tea Commissioner Richard Blechyndon was offering hot black tea free to fairgoers. Because of the heat, and Americans' unfamiliarity with black tea, his product went largely untouched until he thought to feed the tea through iced lead pipes. The resulting cold drink was a treat for thirsty fairgoers.
A recipe from 1911 emphasized that an iced tea punch was popular "for summer porch, tennis and golf teas." To the women of this era and later, a perfectly brewed pitcher of iced tea was the mark of a successful hostess. Thus, the tea industry promoted their product for three decades by offering instructions for "the perfect pitcher of iced tea."
Today, there are generally two traditional iced tea drinks in America-and the only variation between them is sugar. American Southerners swear by their sweet tea, which is iced tea sweetened with sugar at the time of brewing. The first recipe for sweet tea appeared in print in 1879. Home-brewed iced tea has successfully faced the onslaught of soft drinks, Snapple„¢ and super-premium bottled and flavored teas. It's an art you should enjoy at least once this summer.
