Panic and anxiety attacks are greatly influenced by our diet. The foods we eat have an impact on our bodies and how we feel. By avoiding the foods known to stress our bodies, we can begin to alleviate some of the symptoms associated panic and anxiety attacks.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant which can contribute to anxiety, nervousness, as well as problems sleeping. It can also cause a depletion of vitamins and minerals in the body. Caffeine can most commonly be found in coffee, tea, carbonated drinks such as soda, chocolate and energy drinks.

Sugar

Food and drinks containing sugar can give you a boost in high blood sugar levels, the "sugar rush", which is the followed by a lowering of blood sugar levels. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate and the rapid changes in blood sugar levels can result in changes in moods as well. Avoid food and drinks containing sugar as well as sucrose, glucose, fructose and corn syrup as these are all a type of sugar too.

White Flour

Products made with white flour are generally simple carbohydrates. Just as with foods containing sugar, blood sugar levels are affected which can lead to feelings of anxiety. Some foods to avoid are white bread, pasta, cakes, and pastry.

Processed Foods

Processed foods contain a large amount of preservatives and other additives which can cause many people to have headaches and chest pain as well as other health problems. Many times these foods will also contain MSG. Avoid foods such as lunch meat, chips, packaged snacks and hot dogs.

Alcohol

Alcohol dehydrates the body which can lead to fatigue. It can also lower blood sugar levels and cause vitamin depletion as well. While drinking may make you feel better and more relaxed initially, once the alcohol wears off, anxiety may worsen. Avoid any type of alcoholic drink such as beer, wine and mixed drinks.

Avoiding these five groups of food and drinks will help to ease the suffering and symptoms associated with panic and anxiety attacks. These changes in eliminating certain foods can also help in other ways as well... a healthier diet and weight loss too!
