Arnica
by Rebecca Brents
As a flower essence, Arnica deals with deep-seated
shock or trauma which may solidify in physical scar tissue or become locked in
the body through psychological distress and prevent a full healing recovery.
Shock of all kinds is a reaction of the human being to outrageous violence or
invasion ... physical, emotional, psychological.
Especially during accidents or other episodes of
violence, the energy of the body becomes disordered and may even result in
dissociation. (dissociation: Psychol. a) a split in the conscious
process in which a group of mental activities breaks away from the main stream
of consciousness and functions as a separate unit, as if belonging to another
person b) the abnormal separation of related ideas, thoughts, or
emotions)
In plain English this is when your coping capacity is
overwhelmed with stress or injury to the point you cannot think clearly or
logically any longer. You cannot concentrate or form orderly step-by-step
thought processes. Things don't seem "real" to you." You may also have a dizzy,
"floating" feeling ... as if you are "located" somewhere besides your body and
are watching yourself behave from a strangely rational and objective feeling
point remote from where you physically are.
This feeling of "watching yourself" while you perform
actions on automatic pilot, if you will, is evidence of serious psychological
shock and stress, and if it recurs or lasts more than a few minutes, it needs
immediate attention and possible intervention by a therapist or health care
provider. It is evidence of the Higher Self being displaced from the physical
body, and becoming properly grounded again may be difficult.
This higher spiritual energy may also not redistribute
itself properly in certain parts of the body even though it looks and feels as
if one has recovered. (One of the symptoms of shock, in fact, is an
ability to carry on normally while not recognizing the extent of one's
injuries.) Arnica can be helpful for addressing and unlocking the cause of
strange symptoms which seem to have no distinct point of origin, specific
cause, and which do not respond to more conventional treatments.
It should be noted, however, that Arnica may function
by helping the victim access repressed memories, thus causing him (her) to
relive the trauma as a way of purging its effects by bringing the energy to
consciousness.
This is therapeutically sound and even
necessary ... but the effect itself can be disconcerting and should be kept in
mind when dealing with Arnica. Outside supports or therapy may also be advised
during such experiences. This is especially true where there was a loss of
consciousness during the actual traumatic event.
By re-experiencing the original emotional trauma in
mind, the spirit is able to integrate this energy while in conditions of known
safety and thus become fully located back in the physical body, inhabiting it
normally again. Arnica can also help promote more rapid recovery from
short-term trauma if taken right away.
As a therapy in the absence of distinct trauma, Arnica
can help the soul become aware of under-utilized physical parts or functions
... and bring them into more conscious use. This, of course, allows for a more
complete experience and expression of self
In addition to the liquid essence form, Arnica also
comes in small white tablets to dissolve under your tongue to help with
healing.
