Life Writing
One Facet of Living an Enchanted Life
I started life writing in the fifth grade. My mother bought me my own Girl Shout diary! Are you wondering what a Girl Shout diary is? It was a Girl Scout diary kept by me. I had a minor learning disability, undiagnosed in those days, resulting in funny spellings. Undaunted, I wrote to Dear Diary, sharing the best of I Love Lucy, visits with grandparents, and weekly meeting with the Girl Scouts.

A Long Walk on a Short Pier
We all write -- whether we do it professionally or socially. Kids write homework assignments and mom and dad write out checks to pay bills. Writing comes in many shapes and forms, but what about taking that leap of faith and putting your views, thoughts, and ideas on paper and letting others read them, test them, and possibly incorporate them into their own lifestyles.

Being a Cause Bearer
I crumpled as I sat in a chair amidst several rows of empty chairs at our local Barnes and Noble bookstore. I had been too late to participate in the once-a-month Open Mic night. I quickly became disappointment personified with my hunched shoulders and a brooding face speaking loudly.

Beat the Block with a Journal
I hate to admit it, but the truth is -- I was wrong. A journal is not a waste of a writer's time. It's a learning process. When a computer professional sits down to learn a new programming language, he's not wasting his time. He's preparing himself for situations in which his programming skills could come in handy.

How to List-Your-Way to a More Tantalizing Day
Just for today, start collecting a list of what is present in your life right now that fills your heart with gladness. Splash your list on a page -- in words, images, drawings- it doesn't have to be in a standard list format -- and please capture it on paper in a way which is pleasing to you. Make it tangible. This is the first step to your own possibility list which rings, dances, glides and tantalizes you into your day.

How to Observe Wildlife without Leaving Home
The tools needed to start nature journaling are simple and inexpensive. One needs a notebook and something to write with. Experimentation will reveal your personal preferences for lined or clear paper, binding type, size, and lead or ink. As you gain experience you may add a small set of watercolor paints or colored pencils. If you use pencils you may need a sharpener, or you can use mechanical pencils, which yield more technical-looking drawings. You may also use a collecting bag for objects that you want to draw and study indoors. (Although you should collect only fallen objects, where permission is given).

Journals You Can Keep
Besides your daily feelings, thoughts, and experiences journal, there are many ideas for journals that you can keep, some are suggested below. Buy a blank book or a notebook with a particular journal topic in mind and keep this book for only that topic. You may decide to keep several kinds of journals at the same time, so remember that you do not have to journal every day.

Practice Noticing
Take an inventory of all the things that just don't feel right in your life or that you know are causing you stress. Carry a small notebook or piece of paper with you for one day. Take notice and write down people, places or situations that cause you to feel more stress and tension.

Learn from Life
Here is a practice that I have found helpful. You will most likely want to read through all of the instructions at least once before actually doing this practice. Sit comfortably with a notebook or journal by your side. Breathe deeply at least five or six times, inhaling and exhaling through your nose. Take a moment and think of a time when you seemed to have learned something that is detrimental to your overall well being.
