Recently I learned exactly how difficult it is to limbo with a thirty two pound weight in your arms. Especially when that weight is a squirmy two year old balancing precariously on your hip. Even more when that weight bubbles over with laughter as you bend over backwards to avoid knocking off the limbo stick.

Sam and I didn't last long in the contest.

And we did have a really good time.

One thing I noticed was this: I was spending so much energy on avoiding the stick that I didn't have a chance to notice the space available between us and the stick.

After we knocked our way out of the competition, Sam and I stood watching the other limbo-ers and clapped and cheered as they kept going lower and lower and lower.

As the dancers swayed with their backs arched and their focus fully upon the stick in most cases, I focused on the space between them and the stick, willing them to be successful.

Brian Tracy said, "The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear." What may have served the the limbo-ers more was to to focus upon was safely partnering with the space between the stick.

Focusing on the space expands it into becoming more than enough space to limbo. What the unsuccessful limbo-ers noticed, for the most part, was the looming stick... .. the dreaded stick... the "oh no, not the stick!" as it came crashing down. Naturally... with all that focus and attention what choice did it have?

What might happen if we focused on the plentifulness which is a part of our desire? If we were open to creating and accessing what we desire instead of focusing on the "dreaded" or not wanted outcome?

This focus on what you desire can be about space in between you and the limbo stick and it can be the space you require to create the life of your dreams. No matter what, the principle is the same. Your space might be building your business, it might be the space to attract the perfect partner. It might be writing that book or poem or taking out the brushes and the paints after many years of hiatus.

Recognizing and rejoicing in that space allows you to live life to the fullest. You will enjoy each experience and notice the nuances along the way. The laughter, peace, passion and richness that comes as a result will inspire you to further discoveries. The words of tennis pro Steffi Graf says it all: "As long as I can focus on enjoying what I'm doing, having fun, I know I'll play well."
