This a true story about an old friend of mine. His name was Reginold Smythe, he was Vice President of Personnel of a large NY company. He hated the job because he knew the company was profiting greatly by overworking and underpaying its large staffs of clerical people. He felt deep guilt for having hired those poor people who were being so badly mistreated. His efforts to make changes fell on deaf ears.

I had lunch with Reggie a couple of days a week and his main topic of conversation was what he was going to do to improve his life as soon as his stock options became worth one million dollars. He was 45 years old at that time and he figured it would happen when he was 48. Then, according to him, he was off to a home in the country with the wife and kids.

He smoked (actually inhaled) cigars all day and drank every night but everything was going to be super when the great day finally arrived. He would spend the rest of his life making up for this horrible period.

In October l980, shortly after his 46th birthday, Reggie suffered a massive heart attack and died instantly at his desk in the office.

Tomorrow is a myth -- "NOW" is the only reality.
