Heaven's First Impression
Part 2

There were few times when she didn't automatically draw a person, first time acquaintance or old friend, into her warmth. If it did happen, though, we knew that we, too, should be wary. Her ability to judge character was striking and nearly instantaneous.

Even so, she still extended her hand, asked the other person's name, and because of her sincere human interaction skills, that person would never know she had a concern, unless she wanted it known. Only a slight narrowing of her eyes and a barely perceptible formal tone to her voice alerted those of us who knew her way.

Sadly, that bright, quick smile, that extended hand, and that oh-so-comforting hug is no longer available to me, or to any of us. Kay passed away about a year ago, and her loss, here on earth, is felt daily.

But I'm certain that she's still giving great first impressions and making folks feel welcome. I'm sure she still smiles, shakes hands, asks names. I have an image of her, in the Heavens, laughing with Jesus. Maybe after they had their joyous reunion, He gave her an eternal assignment, one that simply continues her work on Earth. Right now, we can be sure that Kay is bestowing that warm smile on the other people entering the Heavenly domain. ...

Standing just inside the Pearly Gates, she holds out her hand. She leans in towards each entrant and asks his or her name, looking deep into their eyes, and then expresses how glad she and her brother and sister angels are to have that person come ... Home.

We all have a purpose in the here-and-now. No matter what you may believe about what comes after your last breath, it's never a bad idea to give yourself a solid, well-defined image, an impression that folks can count on, no matter the situation.

You want that image to precede you, going at least three or four steps ahead of you, so that, new acquaintance or well-known, people feel instantaneously comfortable in your presence. It's just plain good sense -- such an impression will fill both your personal and professional life with serenity and sanity.

And who knows? You may be also be settling your eternity in the bargain!
