"It's radical." I said to myself in reflection. "I had to do a lot of work and, looking back, most of the work was about giving things up."

I went through all the examples:

* In May my dad died and I gave him up.
* I got ripped off and I gave up my anger to it.
* I gave up a trying to make a relationship work.
* I gave up worrying about relationships.
* I gave up being angry at teachers whom I once respected.

The short of it is I seemed to quit clinging to anything that seemed to make itself more important than me.

The end result is a state of being I don't think I've ever had before. AND IT FEELS INCREDIBLE!!!

I found myself moving through the world half way between crying like a saint and laughing like a maniac. As though there is a razor's edge between desire and revulsion on which I find a calm balance.

One the outside everything seems the same. I'm making money, hangin' with friends, doing my business. But on the inside it's *ALL* new. It's as though I've never *really* done it before.

Okay that was a few months ago. Since that time, I'm not quite so ecstatic simply because I seem to have "let go" of most of the unimportant stuff AND I've gotten a bit more used to it.

Every once in a while I get those wonderful slaps in the face that remind me to get pissed off, angry or depressed only to be reminded just as quickly that none of it is important.

My Dad dying really liberated me in a lot of ways. He'd suffered for several years with problems until he decided to end all the heroic measures of life extension.

I remember flying to Idaho to see this man who built a huge family farm with his bare hands only to find him withered and fading. My last day there I kissed him on the cheek KNOWING I would never see him again. I can still feel his rough whiskers against my cheek.

In that moment I embraced dying AND living. What I didn't know was that it was just the start. NOTHING ordinary was possible from this time on.

There is this wonderful story about the god Brahma who decided to be incarnated as a pig. So as a pig he would do every piggy thing in every piggy way. Rooting, eating, shitting and mating. It became such a spectacle that all the other gods got very angry and tried to persuade and beg Brahma to return to his divine form. But he refused!!!

Finally they sent Shiva down and using his sword he cut open the pig that was Brahma, killing it. And from the pigs corpse Brahma arose LAUGHING!!!! "That was wonderful!!" he said "Thank you for ending it!"

The Lesson I try to keep reminding myself is to not confuse who I might be at any moment with the journey. In the end, be it serious, joyous, sad or farcical we can look back on this wondrous life as ... a journey of a lifetime.
