The "Light" in "Enlightenment"

For the cosmos is perfect. the mystic lives in a cosmos in which, as the old song says, "Everything is beautiful." She sees the beauty in butterflies and puppies, of course; but she also trains herself to see the same beauty in spiders and snakes. So, enlightenment removes unnecessary preferences, simplifying mind.

What is the ultimate nature of this one Mind? Mystics say that It is Love. "God is Love" is a mystic motto. So, the number one task of the enlightened person is to become the incarnation of Love. The mystic's God is Love; she worships Love.

This is not just sentimentality, and not just sexuality. Love is unconditional acceptance, and sincere wishes for the ultimate good, of every living creature, including yourself. So, enlightenment removes hatred, envy, violence, and injustice. It forgives utterly!

This is what that "mystery" called "enlightenment" is all about. For enlightenment is full surrender to the Mind of Love that lives deep within your Unconscious. It is always trying to express Itself. Each and every time that you love, It succeeds! Two principles arise from this: There is no "insignificant" act of Love, and Every act of Love is the truest act of worship!

So, enlightenment is not about exotic cultures or strange teachings. Enlightenment is consistent Love. When we have learned this art, we have learned all that we have come to earth to know. But simply learning about It is a far cry from, light years below, actually touching the Mind of Love within your own mind.

Touching this dazzling, brilliant Mind is called gnosis. this is the "mystical experience." It is open to everyone, and is the final goal of all meditation (contemplation).

At this very moment, the Mind of Love is open to your discovery and exploration. But you must still the conscious mind in order to "hear" It, for It speaks with a small, still voice. That is why meditation is complete interior silence.

Meditation is not visualization, and is not affirmation. These have their useful places in the spiritual life, but are not interchangeable with creating mental silence, the thought-free state. When maintained, this silence results in an altered state called "still-mind," and when you are lost in it, still-mind promises bliss or ecstasy.

And that is only the first step down the long and winding road to full transcendence-- allowing Love to lift you above the events of this world, and to transform each one into a learning-experience. So, enlightenment is also understanding.

In time, with practice, you can become unshakeable -- invincible --within your own deeper Mind. This is how meditation gives Power. For it hooks you up with the higher Power within you, which is Love. So enlightenment is Power, and freedom from world-control.

This exquisite path of glory and splendor begins right now. How? It all starts with detachment that is healthy, compassionate, and Love-based. Using a four-syllable phrase that is positive, as a mantra, and using it as often during the day as possible, is a type of meditation that I call "pervasive meditation" or "acognitive therapy."

Start running your mantra right now, and do it as often as possible during your day. If you do this, you will have already started on the Love-trek that will carry you into the Mind of Light. You will be on your Way to enlightenment!
