Heart Chakra Awareness
Balancing the Heart and the Head
Why do we have so many metaphors for the heart? We tell each other to "follow your heart" and we talk about people who are "hard-hearted" or someone with a "heart of gold." We listen with an "open heart" and when someone hurts us we get a "broken heart." When we get deep into a topic we "get to the heart of the matter."
I believe that we use so many metaphors about the heart because we inherently know that it is at the core of our being.
Caroline Myss, author of Energy Anatomy, calls the heart the "central powerhouse of the human energy system." Of the seven major chakras in the chakra system, the heart is literally at the center. It is the bridge between the lower chakras and the upper chakras.

Affirmations - Do They Really Work?
Two years ago you couldn't get me to do affirmations to save my soul. The irony is; now I do them all the time to save my soul! And guess what? They do work and, when done purposefully - with heart and consistency, they do wonders.
When I was first introduced to the concept of affirmations I found I couldn't get past having to say something that I knew in my heart wasn't true, much less having to repeat it. I felt like I was lying. To me affirmations ranked right up there with platitudes. "Don't worry, be happy." Right. I'll get right on it.

The Secret Of The Masters: Yours!
It was Aleister Crowley who made a profound observation that I have always remembered from the time I first read it. He pointed out that there is one - and only one thing - in common in the lives of Jesus Christ, the Buddha, Mohammed, Moses and other great spiritual teachers.
Apart from this, their lives and teachings were totally different. So too were the people they preached to and the message they taught. However, there is one unique experience that they all shared in exactly the same way.

Your Cup Runneth Over
For the full experience of this meditation, take a blanket outside and spread it on the ground -- or position your chaise lounge from your patio furniture so that when you lie down you are more or less facing the Full Moon in the sky. You can certainly take pillows to make yourself comfortable ... and a portable CD player and candle for music and company, if you like. (For the really full experience lie naked under the Moon while you do this meditation.)

Setting Up A Meditation Room
When designing the perfect meditation room for your own personal use, one must keep in mind that the overall theme will be that of peace and serenity. These two words, though they have the same literal definition, have a decidedly different meaning for everyone. The perfect meditation room for one individual will likely seem slightly flawed to another.

Zen Gardening ... Key Elements
There are two main elements to creating the perfect zen garden. Of which are rocks and sand. The rocks represent mountains and grounding, while the sand helps to represent flowing water. However, this sand shouldn't be just any ordinary beach or garden variety sand. Instead you should purchase enough crushed granite sand to fill your space. Whether it be outside or in. Of which can be found in three different shades white, gray, or beige.
You should try to avoid using light tinted granite sand in sunny areas, as it will produce glare and cut back on the zen-like feeling you wish to achieve. Instead use these lighter colors in shady areas or within your office or other indoor gardens. While you don't need a container for an out-door zen garden, you can find many different platforms for an office-sized zen garden. Whether it be online at websites such as this one, or at a local Feng Shui shop.

Three Techniques for Creating a Quiet Mind

Genuine Happiness: Meditation as the Path to Fulfillment
By
B. Alan Wallace
Perhaps you are trying to make progress in your meditation practice. Or maybe you would just like those nagging little voices in your head to be quiet and let you get a good night's sleep. Achieving a quiet mind helps improve concentration, decreases stress, and allows us to create a sense of inner peace.
Focus your mind on any one thing, and it swiftly gets bored and moves on. By focusing your mind on a particular stream of thought for a brief time, you will find that it moves on rather quickly. This technique is far more effective than trying to distract ourselves or our minds from bothersome thoughts!

Inviting Silence: Universal Principles of Meditation
By
Gunilla Norris
Over the last three decades, meditation has been proven to help with everything from high blood pressure to pain management to immune function and more. Meditation is now taught in hospitals, at company retreats, in churches, at school, and of course in yoga and martial arts studios everywhere.
Just in case you haven't yet been convinced to give it a try, the following is a list of the latest meditation research. All of the studies listed have been published within just the last year. You can find abstracts of these studies on PubMed, the National Institutes of Health database. In many of these abstracts, meditation is referred to as MBSR - Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Although this term covers a variety of meditation techniques, the most common are deep breathing and the repetition of a soothing word or phrase.

Inside Every Woman: Using the 10 Strengths You Didn't Know You Had to Get the Career and Life You Want Now
By
Vickie L. MilazzoThere I was, sitting in Japanese-style kneeling position on a hard wooden bench in a 800-year-old Buddhist temple in Kyoto Japan, trying to empty my mind in a breathing, open-eyed meditation. My eyes were focused in the middle distance, seeing all and seeing nothing. The soft smell of pine and burning incense filled the air, and all around me was quiet.
At that almost perfect moment only one thing stood between me and enlightenment - well two, if you count the prickly feeling of my legs falling asleep. That one thing was a bald monk in a dark brown robe standing in front of me wielding a three-foot long stick over his head. His benign smile didn't fool me. He was ready to strike.

Getting in the Gap: Making Conscious Contact with God Through Meditation
By
Wayne W. Dyer
The thought of releasing all the congestion I have accumulated in my mind is worth exploring. Why not forget all the senseless fears and useless anxiety and allow my self to just be now? Why not clean my blackboard of broken dreams and useless judgments and start fresh now? As the old saying reminds me I am my worst enemy and get myself locked in a dungeon filled with cobwebs made by a guilty mind. Why not forget all of that?
In order to be still and lay aside all thoughts I need to recognize the power I have within me. I am a miner searching for a vein of gold but I never go into the mine where the gold is, I wander around the outside of the mine and keep digging there, because I believe the mine is too dark and threatening and my tools are old and broken. I dig a hole and find some rocks that look like gold and build my world around them.
There is great value in being ignorant. I can look at my self in a simple way when I accept the fact that I don't know why I do what I do. That's a gift. I can open my mind and empty all the pride and judgment, the anger and frustration, and start with thoughts of wonder.
