When Something's Not Right About Your Career
Coaching

Let's face it, when you're doing something you don't like to do, nothing feels good. We've been discussing the fact that many of us have lost track of what we were meant to do, and some ways to figure this out.

One way is to take the StrengthsFinderT Profile. To do this, buy the book, Now, Discover Your Strengths by Buckingham and Clifton. These two management experts propose the theory that if you work in your strength areas, you can perform consistently and effortlessly at a near perfect level and find great satisfaction without a whole lot of stress.

Doesn't that sound like heaven?

Here is their theory: Talents + skill + knowledge = strengths. It's my theory too. I've seen it work!

In previous articles, we've mentioned 11 ways you can find out what you were meant to do, what can make you shine.

Many of the methods we mentioned required you're taking a look at how you feel, and processing what you like. However, it's likely you have done this before and it hasn't worked, or you would be doing what you like to do, right?

The most effective way I know of to get to the Core You is to work with a coach who's familiar with this profile.

If you're like me, you want RESULTS, and you want to know about YOU. You're not particularly interested in studying a profile-that's my job, not yours.

For instance, your profile may tell you you have "Achiever." Automatically we think "Someone who has achieved." Actually it's different than that. It means you have a drive, a desire to always be producing. It's more like the Energizer Bunny.

Having worked with many people who have Achiever, I can tell you that usually they're happiest as entrepreneurs and being their own boss. They like to work and have a tremendous appetite for it. If in a more static position, they must live with what B&C call, "a whisper of discontent."

Why live with a whisper of discontent? There are occupations that demand and use this strength, and that's a happy marriage.

One last example, the Connectedness person, they say, 'knows that we're all connected.' Now it's important to note the wording there - THEY know we're all connected.

Mary doesn't have Connectedness and she doesn't KNOW we're all connected. That's never entered her mind.

And thus you learn how unique and valuable you are.

Life is short and much of it is spent working. Spend the time now to investigate what your natural talents are. And p.s. it's an especially good idea when you're retiring!
