Let's face it, for a lot of us, change is hard. It takes energy, courage and shifts in our thinking and ways of being. It's often so much easier to tolerate a less than optimal situation than venture into new unknown territory.
When I hear how others have faced and accomplished making changes in their lives it helps me to feel inspired to take action in mine.
I offer these four real life vignettes from my clients to demonstrate that you can do it, too.
Tara is a forty-year-old woman who called me unhappy in her job, questioning if she would ever know who she authentically was.
She had been living her life for others and felt in her bones that there had to be more. She was tolerating dysfunctional dynamics at work and at home with her stress level approaching the red zone.
After six months, Tara is reveling in a crystal clear sense of self finally expressing her gifts and desires in her life. Her situation at work transformed. She went from being ready to throw in the towel to clearly knowing what her next steps were in transitioning to the next opportunity.
Kathy, a bright and talented, self employed designer, couldn't maintain her focus and efficiency running her business. She hated paperwork, procrastinated on billing and dreaded Monday morning. She also wasn't taking time for her own self-care. She was rapidly moving toward burnout about ready to give up her dream to build a successful and profitable company.
Today Kathy has created a unique and working system, which enables her to have the balance she needs to stay healthy as well as increase her productivity and profit.
Gregg is a young and energetic doctor building his practice in a new community. Recently separated from his wife, he had many unintended distractions that were draining his energy and stressing all the aspects of his life. Gregg asked for support sorting out his priorities, meeting his unmet needs and staying focused on building his business. Now, his practice is taking off, his debt under control and he has recently fallen in love.
Bonnie, an energetic single mother just finished her training as a therapist. As she was about to venture out into the workforce and find a job she realized that being a counselor wasn't for her. She called me feeling horrible about the time, money and energy wasted and feeling guilty about making such a radical change of course.
Bonnie realized she never took the time to fully explore what she loved, who she was and what would be the best use of her talents. With coaching she discovered a whole side of her that had been untapped. Within a few months a dream position fell into her lap and she is glowing in her new life.
What do these four people have in common? They were all dissatisfied with some aspect of their life, made a choice, found out what they really wanted, and got it.
To get there, they all walked their own path of purpose in their own unique way.
For some, achieving their purpose was the payoff, for others it's the path they walk that brings joy and satisfaction to their life.
Either way, these four individuals will attest, it's worth the trip.
