I just had a curious thought.

When was the last time making a list brought tears of passionate, joyful, wondrous gratitude floating down your cheeks?

It happened to me today as I took a moment to write what I call my "short list" of gratitude items.

This is a list of very specific, tangible, real-time people, institutions, and things which pepper my day with positive light, love and energy.

These are what might appear to be "the littles" which are really "the remarkables"

• The cool morning air
• Ceiling fans
• My coffee maker
• Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine
• The Sony Corporation (espectially for creating the first Walkman)
• My local Barnes and Noble

It used to be I made lists of chores or made lists of "Gotta-do's" or lists of "What's missing in the blanks that I need to fill-in-or-else."

Gratitude lists make note of what is present -- the lines which are filled in with perfection.

I know the experience of writing a possibility list (my name for the formerly "gotta-do-or-else to-do" lists) that is filled with activities and people which delight, inspire and make me say "Wow! This really IS my life!"

My thought for you is this:

Just for today, start collecting a list of what is present in your life right now that fills your heart with gladness. You have seen my list. It doesn't sound like a pageant contestant interview response, it sounds like a slice-of-life.

That's what I suggest you do, too.

Splash your list on a page -- in words, images, drawings- it doesn't have to be in a standard list format -- and please capture it on paper in a way which is pleasing to you. Make it tangible.

This is the first step to your own possibility list which rings, dances, glides and tantalizes you into your day.
