Sometimes ... A Great Notion
Part 2
by Rebecca BrentsThere is a wonderful line in a movie I saw years ago ... and I wish I could discover it again. Two older men -- cowboy types I think -- are talking together and one tells the other, "Women aren't like us you know. Women will love anything. Biggest jerk in the world's got some woman crazy about him."
And I shake my head and mutter softly at the memory every time ... "Ain't it so!" The woman in me looks with dismay at what other women tolerate and define as "love." In my adult life I have never once been hit, shoved, kicked, slapped, punched, knocked down, or thrown against a wall. (Ok ... my childhood is another story, and that itself should have set me up for a lifetime as a battered woman. It didn't.)
Maybe it's the Aries in me (and, I guess there's no "maybe" about it.) But I have always said ... if any man ever hits me, he'd better kill me, because if I come up off that floor, one of us is gonna die. You think it's coincidence I've never had to make good on that threat?
On the other hand, the astrologer in me looks at the patterns in a person's chart ... and sees something else. The reason why someone attracts problem partners again and again and again. What she's trying to do? What she's trying to learn? What the messages are in her head that she's trying to either satisfy or silence. Is this a Karmic problem? Is this a "father" problem? Is this a "self-esteem problem"? Is this because she's disowned her own violent and angry feelings ... and along with that she's cut away her capacity for self-defense?
I have seen it help immensely for someone to hear from the mouth of a perfect stranger reading the cryptic symbols in that circle on a piece of paper the reasons why she's doing what she's doing ... and what she's trying to do with the choices she makes again and again and again. Maybe it's too much to expect some kind of miracle healing from a simple gift of information ... because these innate patterns are heart-breakingly powerful and those old familiar feelings do come alive again, even unwanted, in the presence of "the right kind of person."
