Celebrate Each Hello

It is a time of year for re-connecting. Graduations, June Weddings, Summer Camp, family reunions and more --these are the times when we see people who we have not seen for a long time.

We celebrate the re -- connection.

We greet them happily. Hugs are exchanged, bright eyed energy is ignited. We celebrate each first moment back together with relish and grandeur.

It occurred to me this morning: what if we treated each "hello" as a cause for celebration? You know, greeting everyone: strangers, friends, long-lost-loved-ones with equal significance.

I love greeting people on my morning walks.

"Good Morning!" I chirp.

"Hello!" I intone.

"Isn't it a fantastic day?" I ask.

Sandy wags his tail in delight. Sam claps his hands. The energy for each of us goes up. Everyone rejoices.

My French exchange student asked me, "Do you know all these people?"

Oh no," I told her, "If I knew them I would call them by name and perhaps give them a hug as well as a hello.

We walked towards home. I saw a school bus making its way up the hill. Its arrival coincided with my thoughts concerning celebrations in each greeting. My contented and satisfied smile was reminiscent of colorful frosting on a birthday cake.

The bus driver smiled back at me and waved in celebration.

What a great, instant affirmation perfectly aligned with what I was thinking.

What if you greeted each person you met today with a greeting that meets them in a way that is colorful, inviting, and paves the way for even more celebration?

It is so simple. It is so effective. Its multiplication effect will be stretched and felt way beyond what your eye can see. It is like Anthony Robbins said, "Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, "Here is an opportunity to celebrate like never before."
