Passion is what you feel inspired by, what makes your eyes light up, what makes your heart beat a little faster. Feeling passion for someone or something is easy. Choosing to pursue it is hard. This is because following your passion involves taking a risk vs. staying secure.

Many times we think we can't or shouldn't do what we really love to do because it seems too self-indulgent. The truth is that our passions are ours because they are meant to be experienced and enjoyed by us. With your recognition comes the inner conflict of the practical vs. impractical. On the practical side, your mind will tell you why you should or should not do something. On the impractical side, your heart tells you to go for it no matter what. Bringing balance to these two faculties empowers you to make smarter decisions.

Ultimately, when creating your life's work, you seek ways to apply your natural gifts and talents. But what if you are a very passionate person with many gifts and talents? Do you have to give one up for the other? Not at all! In fact, why not combine your passions into meaningful work? For example, take a person who loves animals and graphic design. That person could market herself as a graphic designer who specializes in animal-related companies and causes.

What if you don't feel passionate about anything in particular? If you are not sure what your passions are, you may have to do some soul-searching to uncover dormant dreams and long-lost passions. We all have them. A good place to start is to look within, which is where passion lives. Passions can come from the on-going lessons and obstacles you have had to overcome or they can be the things that you do when time seems to fly.

Look back over your life, and you will be surprised that, with a little reflection, thoughts, ideas and images spring up from your childhood, reminding you of what you loved to do as a child. What did you pretend to be or say you would be when you were growing up?

In romance, a passionate embrace usually leads to the next step in love-making. When you finally embrace what you are passionate about, you will find that you are forced to take action. Embraced by passion, you are compelled to continue with the process. Loving what you do brings you joy which leads to creation. Anything that comes from joy or love has to be worthwhile.

While passion is what we feel, pursuit is what we do. The reason we say "pursuing a career" is because it takes continuous effort and action. What idea can you embrace and move forward? Let yourself go, because like e.e. cummings who said, "In time of daffodils who know the goal of living is to grow, forgetting why, remember how." You, like a flower-- who knows it's only duty is to bloom -- once you find out what you are meant to do, you will start to bloom in unexpected directions.

Lance Morrow once said, "Work is the way we tend the world, the way people connect. It is the most vigorous, vivid sign of life-in individuals and in civilization." Humanity's mission is to help create a more loving, peaceful and enlightened world. You can play your part by achieving your universal and unique purpose.

To tap into your own divinity, you have to let your soul stir you up a bit, get upset, and feel passionate about things. Emotions lead to motion. If we have faith in God or Spirit, we can call forth our gifts and become a force for good in the world. Your presence is your present. Everyone has gifts to share. When you are giving your gifts, Spirit is reaching through you and touching others.

Think of a teacher or doctor, or anyone who is sharing themselves with others through their work. We can also find our true work by becoming open. Our ego does not know what is best for us, but our soul does. If we can listen to it, we can find our work naturally and easily. It is when we feed into our ego's needs that we get side-tracked and lost.

Once you have uncovered your inner core, the essence of who you are, your life will naturally unfold, often in unexpected, more enjoyable directions. At this stage of career development, you do not need to know or expend energy on how your dreams will play themselves out or how you will create your life's work. In fact, the hard part is done -- you know what you are meant to do. Enjoy!
