Creating Peaceful Children Creates a Peaceful World
Parenting for Peace

We must build the next generation as a generation of peace!! We are the constructors of the future and our children, the next generation, are the construction materials.

First off, I'm currently the father of two energetic pre-school boys. I worked for a year in a residential treatment facility for teens and I have worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections for the last 6 years. Finally, I have my Master's degree in professional psychology.

The parents of peace must remember, and all parents in general must remember:

Parenting for Peace Maxim One

Children are not raised in a vacuum

Parenting for Peace Maxim Two

We create our children

Parenting for Peace Maxim Three

Children learm from you the parent first and foremost.

Parenting for Peace Maxim Four

Games and toys of violence lead to violent behavior

Parenting for Peace Maxim Five

Neglect is the cauldron in which violent behavior is cooked

Questions Parents of Peace Should ask Themselves

1. What is the final product that I'm creating in my children?

2. How can I promote peaceful behavior and inner peace with my children in every interaction I have with them?

3. Does my personal behavior show my children that I value peace over conflict?

4. Does my personal behavior stem from a desire to nurture my children or a desire to not be personally inconvenienced?

5. Are the games, toys, and entertainment I provide for my children facilitating peace or conflict?

The Bottom Line

1. The primary need of all children is safety and security

2. Security = structure and ritual

3. Safety = physical, mental, and spiritual nurturance

4. nurturance = the child's needs come before you're own and the child does not exist to meet your needs and wants, you are the parent and you are required to meet the needs, desires and wants of the child.

5. Children's behavior is not personal in nature and they do not deserve the products of your bruised ego i.e. yelling, ignoring, neglect, striking, throwing, screaming.

6. Yelling, screaming, neglect, throwing, and striking and any other types of violent behavior only serve to teach a child they are not safe nor is their environment secure. You will not intimidate a child into compliance, you'll only scare them into further hysteria!!

7. Striking a child only teaches them to strike.

8. The investment you put into your child will pay many dividends in the future; children are not a commodity to pay instant rewards thus you must think about how you invest in your children and what you behavior is teaching them for the future.

9. You are not to decide you're child's future course, you create and facilitate a holistic child that can pursue their own course. divine their natural strength's and weaknesses and then act as empowerer of your child. Be sensitive to thier gifts, talents and abilities and encourage them to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually.

10. BE NICE TO YOUR CHILDREN!!
