Says Who?

Mary Lou flopped on the bed with her arms and legs as loose as an old, well loved rag doll.

She had just about given up. "Why do I bother anymore, anyway?" she thought. " There was too much work, not enough time, too many complaints, not enough rewards ... too ... too ... too ...."

From our of nowhere she felt these words under her skin. "Says who?"

She repeated what she heard, a quiet whisper in her seemingly cavernous bedroom. "Says who?"

She closed her eyes and heard, "There is no one saying there is too much of IT and not enough of YOU except for you? What is it you really want to do right now?"

Mary Lou opened her eyes and scanned the room. It was empty.

She moved to her side and curled up like a small child. Into the pillow she whispered, "I really want to write ... I want to work on my book."

"So write a sentence."

Mary Lou covered her eyes with her forearm. She stopped speaking outloud, choosing to converse in thought.

"A sentence? That's not working on my book."

"Says who?"

Mary Lou rolled onto her back.

This voice, whoever it was, had a point.

"So write a sentence, any sentence."

"Any sentence?"

"Yes. Any sentence. Some of the simple ones are already taken. Don't bother with, 'To be or not to be, that is the question.' Or 'Jesus wept.' Beyond that, all it takes is a couple words " or more than that " to work on your book. Just write a sentence."

Mary Lou leaped out of bed and ran to her desk, excitement bursting through her body.

"All I have to do is write a sentence! All I have to do is write a sentence! All I have to do is write a sentence!"

In her excitement, she wrote for forty five minutes without looking up from her keyboard. Almost one thousand words and many, many sentences later the scent of pure satisfaction filled her spirit.

All it took was agreeing to do what she really wanted to do in the first place and then doing it.

She propelled herself further than she had originally intended because she allowed herself to jump into the energy and simply, purely and openly write a sentence. The flow rewarded her by providing so much more than her original words.

What is your "sentence" which is wanting to be written?

Is it the first notes of a song, the opening section of a business plan, ad copy for your new product?

All it takes is one small piece: you don't have to do it all nor do you have to do it perfectly the first time.

Are doubtful words flooding your brain as you read?
