I must say I don't have a lot of trouble making decisions, even daunting and irreversible ones, or where I'm choosing a path that is clearly life-changing. I've always had good connection to my feelings, been willing to trust my instincts, and I've known that the world belongs far more to those willing to get off the dime and do something to get what they want than to those who stand around wishing and hoping for something good to happen to them -- by magic, I guess. Or by accident.

I'll also admit I don't have a lot of patience with those who dither, fret, waffle, procrastinate, and seem willing to wait for Prince or Princess Charming to show up with the winning lottery ticket in hand before launching their lives into something worth living. Most of them are in for a long and disappointing stint.

True, life will happen to you ... all by itself, if that's how you decide you want to live it. But I've never found sitting on the fence very comfortable, and I'm a whole lot more interested in giving some conscious direction to my journey and my choices than to just hanging around seeing what comes along. Setting goals and going for them has always come naturally to me, and frankly, I think it's supposed to be that way for everyone.

Life is built on choices ... and not to choose is also to make a choice!!! There are plenty of other people willing to make your choices for you, but my experience is: They don't often act in your best interests. Like the citizen who doesn't vote, if you didn't offer input when the chance was offered to you ... you may not have a lot of right to complain.

But I know not all choices are simple. And sometimes it's a whole lot easier to get hung up and stalled than it is to move forward. (Sometimes that also feels safer and less scary.) I also know there are people who like to "keep their options open" ... indefinitely, in some cases. Frankly, I salute their courage. I can't live like that. Me, I want closure.

Get on with it. Get it done. Get finished. Get on to something else.
