Affirmative Action

Dream it (BIG). Write it. Say it (hell, shout it from the roof tops). Do it. Affirmations help us talk ourselves into it. They also let the universe know we're serious and we're ready. Keep it simple. Sounds like..."I am connected mind, body, and spirit. I am healthy, beautiful, and harmonious inside and out". Then write it in your journal. Doodle it on the fridge. Mark it on your calendar. Write it on your bathroom mirror (I do).

GO Y-O-U!

Next, share this commitment with friends, family, and co-workers. Let everyone know you've made a commitment and ask for their support in helping you stick to it. Steer clear of sabotagers; they'll just bring you down. Recruit your own cheerleaders. Ask them to e-mail you, call you or stop by and check on your progress.

Baby Steps

Be like Bill Murray in What About Bob, put one foot in front of the other and go for it! Don't be afraid. Don't think about tomorrow. Be where you are from moment to moment. They don't call 'em 12 step programs for nothing! Hell, yours could be a zillion step program. It doesn't matter. Don't worry about someone else's pace. This is your life, travel at your own speed.

Ride the Waves

Remember that achieving goals should also be fun. Don't get so caught up with your eye on the prize, that you don't enjoy the ride. (I'm working on this one myself!) You are where you are now, but your life will look differently when you get to the next level. Your reality will shift. The scenery will look differently. Relationships will change.

Nice & Easy

Be gentle with yourself. Take it one day at a time. Give yourself permission to have peaks and valleys. Nurture yourself when you're having a low day and pump it up on days when you're more energized. Ride the wave of success, don't suffocate it by controlling the details.

What will you commit to today? What would it take for you to truly commit to one of your goals? A pep talk? A support person? A personal trainer? A financial planner? A professional organizer? A cleaning crew? A swift kick in the booty? A professional coach? Enlist the help of others if you need to. But without commitment, it won't stick.

Take a deep breath. Get clear about what you want. Skip the what if's. Re-record the messages. Have it your way. Get affirmative. Create a cheer-ocracy. Be easy like Sunday morning, and enjoy the ride. You can live the life you've always imagined. Commit to it. It's right there waiting for you to claim it.
