With the Holiday Season coming up fast, plans are being made to travel to visit friends, family, and assorted relatives.

If traveling by car, there are cetain precautions and suggestions that could make a trip safer and put your mind at ease in case of car troubles.

Have some bright red fabric to tie to your car to alert passing cars that you are having trouble. Also use flares or flash-lights, with spare batteries in the glove box.

Always have paper and pencil to jot down those important phone numbers, names and addresses in case of an accident. Keep your insurance information in a plastic storage bag so they don't get wet.

A large coffee can with a set of matches will melt snow if you need water to drink or for your car radiator or to wash a cut or scrape. A first aid kit should always be handy, as well as gloves or mittens, blankets, and extra dry clothing for each person in the car.

A shovel and a bag of sand, or grit, even cat litter will help when those wheels are spinning. A toolbox for simple repairs, and don't forget that cell phone -

If stuck or stranded, do not leave your vehicle. Your chances to stay safe are greater if you stay in your car, use your cellphone or attract passing cars with flares, etc.

Listen to local radio stations for impassable roads, or other important information so that you can adjust your route plans, especially in snowy areas.

Keep a few brochures for motels along the way so that you can call ahead for a room if the weather really turns nasty. Some snack food items that do not spoil and beverages in individual containers keep every-one going - just in case.

It is always wise to use every precaution possible, and get there a bit late - but get there safely.

Your family and friends want to see you during the holidays, so make sure you do whatever you can to give them their wish.
