Getting What You Want

Tap the Power of Your Mind
What if progressing toward your most monumental goals was as simple as acting like you'd already achieved them? Experts say it can be that simple. A single positive statement, repeated throughout the day, taps the power of your subconscious mind and energizes your spirit while propelling you toward your goals.

Affirmations - Do They Really Work?
Two years ago you couldn't get me to do affirmations to save my soul. The irony is; now I do them all the time to save my soul! And guess what? They do work and, when done purposefully - with heart and consistency, they do wonders.
When I was first introduced to the concept of affirmations I found I couldn't get past having to say something that I knew in my heart wasn't true, much less having to repeat it. I felt like I was lying. To me affirmations ranked right up there with platitudes. "Don't worry, be happy." Right. I'll get right on it.

Dynamic Principles to Make
Your Wildest Dreams Come True
Know and accept your weaknesses and faults (we all have them), but even more so your strengths, abilities and gifts. Build on your strengths and try to minimize or improve on your weaknesses; however work more on your strengths.
An honest, objective analysis of yourself is the first step in preparing you for success and realizing your dreams. Celebrate you for just being you, a unique creation. "Each one of us has been uniquely created by God and within each of us, we have certain special "instincts" or "natural tendencies/strengths/inclinations" towards certain things.

New Year's Resolutions to Jump Start Your Career
Resolve that, this year, you are going to find work that you love. If you've found it already, congratulations -- you have a great foundation to build on! If you love what you're doing, you'll put your heart and soul into it and be successful. Is this you? If not, resolve to change matters.
Actually it's SEMI-parasitic, attaching its roots into the host plant to extract nutrients, and it's especially magical if this "host plant" should be an oak. Mistletoe attached to an oak was sacred to the ancient Celtic Druids.

Be Open to Opportunities
Opportunities often come disguised in many different shapes and forms. Some are obvious, while others arrive disguised as hard work, difficulties or obstacles that arise throughout life.
Whenever, and wherever, there is a problem -- your own or someone else's -- there is also the seed of opportunity disguised within the problem. Do you see these as opportunities?

Identify it. The southern expression for that is "Name it and Claim it". What do you really want? Be specific. Not, "I want a job that will pay my bills". Instead -- "I want to work as a Store Manager making $XXX per month."
Also try to look past the obvious goal, and connect to the feeling you are really looking for. "I want to be able to feel safe with my money, not just each month but for the future." Sometimes you can let go of a specific goal and find another way to get the same feeling.

Seven Tips For Negotiating Your Next Raise
Before you enter a negotiation, find out if there are restrictions on what you can get. For instance, if a job is advertised at a certain title and salary, some companies will not negotiate beyond what is formally posted. If your company has a limit on raises, you can't get more unless your boss jumps through a lot of hoops.

The Attitudes Of Success And Happiness
I work with people every day who are striving to be - do - or have something in their lives. Be it a successful business, a life that is less stressed, or a more satisfying career, everyone wants the same thing at the core -- to feel successful and to be happy.
Sounds easy to attain but we all know it's not. There are many fine formulas for success and happiness out there. You've probably tried many self-help or business improvement programs and know they would work if you consistently practiced and skillfully applied them.

Achieving Any Goal
We all have goals that are important to us. They range from quitting smoking, to creating our own businesses, to raising great kids. Unfortunately, most of us also have the experience of being unable to reach our goals, of having them always seem just out of reach. We can see them. We want to complete them, but we never quite cross that finish line.

Questions To Kickstart Your Dream
What's most important for you to experience, explore or embrace this time around? Until you answer this question, your life goals will be off purpose. Unaligned with your inner passion, your intentions will lack the power to attract the people and situations necessary to become a reality.
Get clued into your true joy. What activities turned you on as a child? What are your hobbies now? When your goals are aligned with your soul purpose, synchronicity kicks in to guide you to your target. When you intuit and own your unique essence and calling, assistance will flow to you from every earthly and heavenly source.

Reach Your Goals Quickly
We all have dreams and goals. Some of them are simply "wishes", like winning the lottery or sailing to Tahiti. But we also have goals that are vital to our futures and the well-being of our families. And yet many of us make little or no progress toward achieving our most important goals. We wait and hope, but get no closer to our dreams.

Avoid a Life of Regrets With Your Yes List
How many times have you told yourself "yes!" today? Not enough I bet. Yes is the most powerful word in the English language. Unfortunately, too many times we say yes to others when we should say no. At the same time we continue to tell ourselves no when we need to say yes. You deserve to create the life of your dreams. Period. The first step on that road is to learn to tell yourself yes before you say yes to others.

Are You David or Goliath?
Being a success in business or in any aspect of life is not necessarily about doing a bunch of things to get there. What you attract in life is a mirror of who you really are.
One of my motivational "pep talks" I give to my young ball players is about the story of David and Goliath. Goliath was the giant, bigger and stronger than anyone else, and of course he knew it. His physical size gave him an absolute advantage over every one of his opponents and each opponent he faced could only look up and see the tremendous physical size of Goliath. There were tens of thousands of warriors in the Israelite army, yet every single one who went out to the challenge given by the giant Goliath, never came back alive.

It's Your Dream
Are You Using The One-Two Punch?
Have you ever noticed? There are some people who seem to know exactly what they want and how to get it. They move toward their targets with precision, and appear to achieve easily without goals or planning. They have a narrowed focus and motivation, reasons for doing what they do. They don't even have a set of written goals, yet they move through life attaining what they go after.
Then, there are some of us that need the strategies, the written goals and plans of action, and great role models to follow. Neither is good or bad, right or wrong. There are just different needs for different people. This article is for those of us who need the latter.

Inspiration!
When I was in my twenties and the crisis-du-jour at that stage of life was a backed up toilet, a freezer gone bad, or a fallen souffle, I went into denial when my mother-in-law said, "Things come in threes. That way you get them over with." It's often been true, except when they came in 4s and 5s. Put it this way, "there are times ... that try men's souls."

What's On Your Personal Priority List?
What are the three top priorities in your life? The absolute three most important things that you consider the essential business of your life? Ok ... what are the TEN top priorities in your life? Which question do you have the most trouble with? Coming up with ten ... or narrowing things down to only three? Both lists are important, because of course the top three -- will certainly be included on your top ten. But from time to time the top three will change. In fact, from time to time BOTH lists will change. Items get dropped. Items get added. Opportunities -- or crises -- arise ... and things in your world shift to accommodate these.
Dreams change their focus. Goals are achieved -- or abandoned, and become "former goals." Relationships strengthen ... and dissolve. Births and deaths occur. Life is a kaleidoscope -- always intricate and multi-faceted, always in motion, some moments breathtakingly lovely ... others not so much. Yet through it all a set of underlying values guides us ... and helps us make choices. Small choices ... huge decisions. Routine maintenance ... and life-altering alternatives.

Healthy Summer Projects
This week I was sitting on the phone with tech support, and over and over again, I thought of things I could have done while I sat there -- waiting -- not living my life. Holy Mess, Sacred Chaos
And the Inner Creative Child
Recently I was shopping at my local art store. Now when I go shopping for art supplies I buy LOTS of stuff because I have the excuse that I am buying all these great things for my students and classes. It's actually one of the best parts about being a creativity teacher.
So this one day I was pushing my shopping cart around and it was practically filled to the brim with all kinds of goodies, but mostly tempera paint, which is the kids paint that I use in my workshops.
I was standing in line waiting to check out when for some reason I turned around and saw this adorable little girl, maybe 6 years old, clutching, and I mean white knuckle clutching these two bottles of tempera paint and looking up at me with the most wide eyed, plaintive, almost pleading look. I was actually a little taken aback by the intensity of her gaze and not sure what it meant, because she didn't say anything, she just stared at me.

7 Easy Steps to Achieve Your Goals
We all have something in life that we want to achieve. But there is a difference between those who achieve their dreams and those who just keep on dreaming. The difference is setting a goal and making it happen. Just wanting something and dreaming about it is not enough. Everyone can dream. Not everyone can make their dream a reality.
We just saw Michael Phelps achieve his dream of winning 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. How did he do it? Well I can tell you he did more than just dream about it. He sat down with his coach and set goals. We heard him speak about a piece of paper that had his goals for the Beijing Olympics. He didn't tell us what they were, not even after the games were over. What he did say when asked what was on that sheet of paper "pretty much what you saw".

Bolstering Beliefs
At some time in your life you have probably used affirmations or other positive self-talk to change an attitude, opinion or behavior. The more you have done this, the more you know that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
What makes the difference? Why are there times when you only need to say the affirmation once and your whole life changes? And yet you repeat other affirmations religiously for days, weeks, months and sometimes even years and nothing happens?
I believe that the difference between positive affirmations that work and those that don't are the underlying beliefs you hold regarding the topic at hand. If, for example, you want to experience a loving relationship and your underlying beliefs support the idea that you are lovable, then the door opens to allow a relationship in. If, however, you don't really believe that you are lovable, or worthy, or good enough, that belief will negate all the positive energy you expend to create a loving relationship.

Begin Your Dream Project TODAY!
The biggest lesson of all is: Just DO it! Cut through the excuses and get started today. Half of finishing a project is just starting it in the first place. One of the main reasons people do not break out of their comfort zone, and commence making their dream come true, is lack of self-confidence. Too often, we are waiting for someone to descend from the sky and confer "expert" status upon us. We play down our strengths, compare ourselves to the elite in the field we wish to enter, judge ourselves unworthy, and decide that it is not even worth starting. It is better to do nothing.

Growth from Discontent
Life's way of giving you a little push
That strange, gut-wrenching feeling you have is not the sushi you had for lunch. It's your soul trying to give you a nudge to do something. A word for that feeling is "discontent." Discontent is a state of not being satisfied or fulfilled in your current situation.
Of course, this same feeling can apply to a hundred different situations, from a work-related issue to a personal issue at home. But, the resulting meaning is still the same: "make a change." Some people listen to that feeling and change their life in such a way as to eliminate that feeling. However, some people that fall into discontent, but tend to remain in that situation as they find it a place of "same-ness" and "safety."

Courage & Calling: Embracing Your God-Given Potential
By
Gordon T. Smith
Creating a dream-come-true life might sound like a fairy tale; however, it is possible if you go about it in the right way. It takes patience, determination, courage, and an extreme desire to succeed. If you really want to make life-altering changes, there are ten things you must do. Follow these suggestions, and you'll be well on your way to a total transformation.
1. Make yourself a priority in your own life.
If you aren't the star of your own life, then who is? Putting your needs on the backburner while you take care of everyone else is a surefire way to burn out fast. You can't transform your life if you don't make time for yourself, and you won't make time for yourself if you come last on your list. Decide now to treat yourself as well as, if not better than, you do others. Transformation takes time, effort, and the belief that you are worth it!

The Journey Called You: A Roadmap to Self-discovery and Acceptance
By
Julie Fuimano
"Busy" is a societal game. The busier you are the more successful you must be. Right? So you spend your days doing rather than being and lose yourself in the abyss of 'getting things done'. At the end of the day, you might feel good about the things you've accomplished-although oftentimes, whatever you do seems not enough. You still feel like there is so much on your plate that you've hardly made a dent.
The more you do and the busier you become, the less able you are to focus on the moment and what is right in front of you. The conscious mind can only hold one thought or feeling at a time. Therefore, because of how the mind works, multitasking is really the process of shifting your attention between two or more things. In this way, you become a human doing. Society perpetuates the myth that the more you get done, the more coveted you are.

You Get to Want What You Want
"What's terrible is to pretend that the second-rate is first-rate. To pretend that you don't need love when you do; or you like your work when you know quite well you're capable of better."
~ Doris Lessing ~
When you tap into your inner voice and identify your vision, you bring to life your deepest longing. Your vision manifests the essence of you based on your truth, values, creativity, and authenticity. Putting yourself out into the world in this way can feel risky; the thought of that risk can easily block your from seeing your vision.

Growing up, permission slips were a big part of school life -- essential to participating in special projects, field trips, or class trips out of state. For me to take part in any adventure outside of the classroom, my mother or father had to sign the slip. Now, as an adult, I can sign my own permission slip. In fact, I don't even need one! Yet I realize how often I don't give myself permission to be who I want to be or do what I want to do.
How many times have you decided that you wanted something, and then denied yourself permission to have it or even ask for it?
In my experience, here are the top ten beliefs that cause people to deny themselves permission to want what they want:

Discovering What You Want For Your Life
I often recommend that life planning be based upon an individual's personal vision and purpose. If you are going to handcraft a life of choice, you'll need to know what you want so that you can make the choices that take you there. The trouble is that many (most?) of you cannot name what it is you want.
If you don't make choices for your life, others will. Often, choices are made by circumstances, weak foundation, past, parents. Choosing what you want in life and out of life is a new skill for many people. It may take some practice. At some point you realize that you are able to, and must, make choices for your life.
