Help Your Kid Survive Mean Girls Or Guys
At some point in your school career, chances are you've had at least one run-in with a kid who seemed determined to make your life miserable. If your son or daughter is currently dealing with one (or more) of these kids here are some positive messages you can offer.
These aren't magic bullets by any means. But if you a) empathize with what your child is going through, b) make sure (s)he knows no one deserves bad treatment from anyone, and c) become your child's #1 advocate, then you will help the situation.

10 Things Successful People Know

What do extraordinarily successful people know about life that you don't? Are they just a lot luckier, smarter, or harder working than you? Or is there something inherently different in the way that they approach life that propels them to unimaginable heights?
The following list attempts to answer these questions. It contains the distilled wisdom from many years of trial and error by some of the most successful people modern society has seen. Some of what you'll read might surprise you. Some of it -- I hope! -- will inspire you. Either way, it just might light that fire under you. ENJOY.

Traits of Highly Successful People
That You Can Learn!
We have all read about people who are successful briefly. They win a gold medal, make a fortune, or star in one great movie... and then disappear. Or, there are those like Marilyn Monroe and Howard Hughes who achieve extraordinary success, at the cost of their own lives. These examples do not inspire me!
My focus and fascination is with people who seem to do well in many areas of life, and do it over and over through a lifetime. In entertainment, I think of Paul Newman and Bill Cosby. In business, I think of Ben and Jerry (the ice cream moguls), and a local hardware store owner who is famous for the money he's give to children's charities.

Five Ways to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude
Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of Simple Abundance, speak often of the importance of a Gratitude Journal, in which, at the end of each day, they record five things that they're grateful for.
Regardless of whether you record these items, spend some time each day to focus on the little things in your life that make each day special. Perhaps it's your child's toothless grin. A warm home. Delicious food enjoyed with family.

Cheaters usually fall into two categories: Those who are always looking for opportunities to cheat (serial cheaters) and those who find themselves with an opportunity to cheat and make a bad decision. (Unintended cheaters.)
Serial cheaters usually use sex as a sort of emotional band-aid to make themselves feel better about insecurities, growing older, depression, and for thrill-seeking, among other things. Serial cheaters seek out opportunities for sex - think ESPN's Steve Phillips.
Unintended cheaters generally make a bad decision when presented with an opportunity to cheat, but don't seek out the opportunity. This is the kind of person who sleeps with a coworker after an out of town conference following a rough month, or a difficult life change.

Seven Steps to
Making a Difference in an Indifferent World
We live in troubled times where our peace and safety are often in danger. Most feel helpless and unable to affect the unfolding events in our present world. And yet many are uniting their minds, energy and actions in order to create a peaceful and safe world with dignity for all.
Some groups work politically while others spiritually or socially. Some focus on the poor or refuges, others on human rights, some on the politicians themselves who seem to be making the decisions. During this period of our evolution, it is so important that each of us makes his or her personal statement through thoughts words and actions.

Meaning and Purpose at Midlife
Spiritual leaders as well as research psychologists agree: a sense of meaning adds to quality of life at any age. In my business, I find midlife clients often ask these questions and search for answers. There is no simple turnkey operation to find a life purpose -- but here are some guidelines to get started.

When Negative People Get in the Way
Take a look around at your family, friends, and coworkers - how many of these people are constantly focused on the negative? It's difficult enough to keep our OWN thoughts positive -- to input encouraging self-talk into our own mind - but when the negative is coming from someone outside of yourself, your process to prosperity and abundance becomes extremely blocked.

The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Eat and Why
By
Jonny Bowden
Especially around the first of every year, people talk about "eating healthier." It often comes tied to talk about losing weight, working out, getting fit ... the kinds of things that go on New Year's Resolution lists every year -- and last a few weeks before being dumped again in favor of one's old habits -- which presumably were unhealthy and needed to change.
But old habits die hard ... and usually the desire to change isn't nearly as strong and stubborn as the routines and preferences it's up against.
The fact is, if you want something badly enough, you'll do it. And if you're reading this essay, somewhere, somehow, something in side you wants a healthier diet. You'd just like it to be easy -- so you stand a fighting chance at making it happen without the pain, misery, sense of deprivation and inconvenience which teams up with the power of your old habits and forms an unbeatable alliance.

The Culture of Excess
We live in a society of gadgets and gizmos, of toys and more toys, of things that evoke feelings of luxury, style and class. This is available to almost everyone, not just a privileged few. Welcome to the 21st century. No other time of the year is it more prevalent, conspicuous and aggressively promoted than during the Christmas season.
Thanks to advances in technology, the airwaves, the print and electronic media are flooded with advertisements that appeal to society in general, to people from all walks of life. There is something for everyone. After all, producers of all goods and services have YOU in mind.

Zen Mind: How to Declutter

101 Feng Shui Tips for Your Home
By
Richard Webster
One of the things that gives me most peace is have a clean, simple home. When I wake up in the morning and walk out into a living room that has been decluttered, that has a minimalist look, and there isn't junk lying around, there is a calm and joy that enters my heart.
When, on the other hand, I walk out into a living room cluttered with toys and books and extra things all over the place, it is chaos and my mind is frenetic.
I've been a simplifier and a declutterer for years now (probably 8-9 years) and I've gotten pretty good at it, but I've found that you have to keep coming back to revisit your clutter every once in awhile.

Your True North
How to Navigate to a Life of Fulfillment
You were born with an internal compass that absolutely knows how to lead you to a fulfilling life. Some call this your Higher Self, Martha Beck refers to it as your Essential Self, and I call it your TRUE self.
Your True Self is that part of you that is always connected to Spirit and can give a broader perspective than the immediate (where we tend to put our focus). It has your best interests in mind: your ultimate happiness, your perfect life lessons, and your greatest accomplishments. It is like an internal compass pointing you North. Your own GPS system that will signal when you are off course or circling back down South.

Eight Characteristics of a Strong Mission Statement
Every person has a unique combination of passions and values, shaping and defining who they are, consciously or unconsciously. Once you find a compelling way to clearly articulate your core value and the passions that put this core value into motion, you will create a powerful tool that you can use as a decision criteria, a motivation or a standard to which to live your life. This tool is your Mission Statement.

Saddam Hussein In His Underwear
I don't think this kind of thing benefits or uplifts anyone. Some people are glad that it happened to him, or have very little interests in his human rights, citing the abuses that he himself was responsible for. But that's a mistake.
The fact is that when we demean another in this fashion, or even take some pleasure in it, we only drag our own spirits through the mud. It's hard to elevate ourselves spiritually, or even improve our positive mindset when we are taking pleasure in the demise of other people, no matter what their infamy may be.

The Way Of The Vegetarian
A few weeks ago, I finally went totally vegetarian. It's a move that I have been thinking about for many years, but could never quite bring myself to do. In this article, although I am discussing this issue as an example, you can use the ideas here to move to any goal of your own choosing, i.e. by taking small incremental steps first.
The fact is that you can achieve almost anything - vegetarianism, giving up smoking, ending sugar addiction or alcohol addiction, doubling your income - by taking small steps towards that goal, and gradually chipping away at the barrier preventing you from attaining it.

Building Dependability
What does dependability mean to you? How does it feel when someone does not return your call or e-mail? What happens when someone tells you they'll do something and they fail to deliver? Can you depend upon yourself to deliver?
In order to be credible as a leader and become someone who people can depend upon to get things done, take your word seriously. You teach others how to treat you as a leader by how you treat yourself. Make a commitment to honor your word, choose your words carefully, and learn how to follow through on all of your promises.

What's Important Now?
We all know that doing the same old things will likely get you the same old result, right? Ok -- So with that in mind, what if I asked you what your top three priorities are for today -- just for today? I asked that one time to a client, and she said (without humor), to clean up after the dog, referee the teenagers, and try not to fight with my husband. Well, yippee.
Your answer might be to drag yourself through the day at a boring unfulfilling job, do a lot of chores that are frustrating and repetitive, or be at everyone else's beck and call and have no time for yourself. Well, yippee again. It's easy to lose sight of what you really want in your life when there's so much going on in the world -- not just the world at large, but your own world.

Discovering What You Want For Your Life
I often recommend that life planning be based upon an individual's personal vision and purpose. If you are going to handcraft a life of choice, you'll need to know what you want so that you can make the choices that take you there. The trouble is that many (most?) of you cannot name what it is you want.
If you don't make choices for your life, others will. Often, choices are made by circumstances, weak foundation, past, parents. Choosing what you want in life and out of life is a new skill for many people. It may take some practice. At some point you realize that you are able to, and must, make choices for your life.
