Deciding What's Important

Tap the Power of Your Mind

What if progressing toward your most monumental goals was as simple as acting like you'd already achieved them? Experts say it can be that simple. A single positive statement, repeated throughout the day, taps the power of your subconscious mind and energizes your spirit while propelling you toward your goals.

Tap the Power of Your Mind

A Tool for the Spirit

Journaling is a remarkable device for easing worry and obsession, for identifying hopes and fears and for allowing your creative self to expand, increasing your level of energy and confidence. It harnesses the power to tap into successively deeper layers of your subconscious mind while it zaps the nervous, passive energy that ties your stomach in knots and leads to more guilt and worry.

Journals are tools to help you discover the wisdom you already possess. Sometimes, this wisdom will surprise you. Other times, it will challenge you. Always, it will come directly from you, empowering you to trust yourself and to take action by giving you the deep-seated knowledge that you know more than you think you do.

Affirmations - Do They Really Work?

Two years ago you couldn't get me to do affirmations to save my soul. The irony is; now I do them all the time to save my soul! And guess what? They do work and, when done purposefully - with heart and consistency, they do wonders.

When I was first introduced to the concept of affirmations I found I couldn't get past having to say something that I knew in my heart wasn't true, much less having to repeat it. I felt like I was lying. To me affirmations ranked right up there with platitudes. "Don't worry, be happy." Right. I'll get right on it.

How To Nourish The Sandwich That Is You

The "Sandwich Generation" is a term that has now made it into the dictionary. It fits an increasing number of Boomer women whose reality includes being squeezed between the demands of growing children and the needs of aging parents.

A study by AARP and the National Alliance for Care-giving identified over 44 million Americans who are caring for ill adult family members, 60% of them women. According to the National Center on Health Statistics, about 80% of women in their 40's have children for whom they are still somewhat responsible. Given these numbers, many of you may well be asking yourself, how can I balance caring for my parents, my children and myself? Here are some tips to help you sustain and nourish yourself.

What is important to know is you will never find that true satisfaction doing "just" what you want to do. Thinking About Moving to a Small Town?

Are you thinking about moving to a small town or to the country? I am. In doing some research, I discovered some assumptions worth checking out. Many people move happily to small towns and are pleased; others are surprised and unhappy. If you do the research, you can avoid being in the latter group! Use your EQ to feel out the situation and make a good decision.

Seven Steps to
Making a Difference in an Indifferent World

We live in troubled times where our peace and safety are often in danger. Most feel helpless and unable to affect the unfolding events in our present world. And yet many are uniting their minds, energy and actions in order to create a peaceful and safe world with dignity for all.

Some groups work politically while others spiritually or socially. Some focus on the poor or refuges, others on human rights, some on the politicians themselves who seem to be making the decisions. During this period of our evolution, it is so important that each of us makes his or her personal statement through thoughts words and actions.

Getting Unstuck From Procrastination

Sherry was behind on many important things in her life. She had unpaid traffic tickets, the insurance on her car had lapsed, she had a stack of unpaid bills, and her apartment was a mess. Sherry was not happy with this situation, yet seemed unable to do anything about it. Even when she set aside the time to get these things done, something always got in the way.

Meaning and Purpose at Midlife

Spiritual leaders as well as research psychologists agree: a sense of meaning adds to quality of life at any age. Is This Your Year?

I'm going to resist the temptation to jump on the New Years resolution bandwagon. Frankly, I don't believe resolutions endure and I'd venture a guess you are saturated with messages, to tempt you to make the changes you want to make for this coming year. Instead of dangling a stale carrot in front of you, making it sound easy to succeed by resolution, I'm going to offer you something juicy. Forget resolutions. This year, LEARN to change your life.

Personal Costs

How do you define your personal costs? Do you waste your precious time in a line only to save a $1.25? Well what if I told you that if you want to save that $1.25, you'll have to spend $125? Would you do it now? No! Well you better not! What advantage is there to spending $125 to save $1.25? None! So why do people do it?

With ever increasing consumer debt more of us are finding ourselves robbing Peter to pay Paul each month. We go through our bills and find that the money just won't stretch far enough to cover all of the bills and expenses. Well, I've been in more than a few of those arguments myself over the years, and I'm not particularly proud of the fact. A Zen Approach to Healthy Eating

The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Eat and Why
By
Jonny Bowden
Especially around the first of every year, people talk about "eating healthier." It often comes tied to talk about losing weight, working out, getting fit ... the kinds of things that go on New Year's Resolution lists every year -- and last a few weeks before being dumped again in favor of one's old habits -- which presumably were unhealthy and needed to change.

But old habits die hard ... and usually the desire to change isn't nearly as strong and stubborn as the routines and preferences it's up against.

The fact is, if you want something badly enough, you'll do it. And if you're reading this essay, somewhere, somehow, something in side you wants a healthier diet. You'd just like it to be easy -- so you stand a fighting chance at making it happen without the pain, misery, sense of deprivation and inconvenience which teams up with the power of your old habits and forms an unbeatable alliance.

Sell Your Love

It's well documented that if we love our work, then we usually become experts at it and eventually the money shows up. Makes sense, but this is a slight shift on that concept. I want you to literally look at the concept of selling love for money. This has nothing to do with prostitution. Prostitution lacks love which is the core of what's wrong with that industry. No, I'm talking about infusing your product with love before selling it. Love is a magical indescribable element that uplifts, nurtures, blesses, and lightens the recipient. Add it to your product and watch the profits soar.

What's On Your Personal Priority List?

What are the three top priorities in your life? The absolute three most important things that you consider the essential business of your life? Ok ... what are the TEN top priorities in your life? Which question do you have the most trouble with? Coming up with ten ... or narrowing things down to only three? Both lists are important, because of course the top three -- will certainly be included on your top ten. But from time to time the top three will change. In fact, from time to time BOTH lists will change. Items get dropped. Items get added. Opportunities -- or crises -- arise ... and things in your world shift to accommodate these.

Dreams change their focus. Goals are achieved -- or abandoned, and become "former goals." Relationships strengthen ... and dissolve. Births and deaths occur. Life is a kaleidoscope -- always intricate and multi-faceted, always in motion, some moments breathtakingly lovely ... others not so much. Yet through it all a set of underlying values guides us ... and helps us make choices. Small choices ... huge decisions. Routine maintenance ... and life-altering alternatives.

Holy Mess, Sacred Chaos
And the Inner Creative Child

Recently I was shopping at my local art store. Now when I go shopping for art supplies I buy LOTS of stuff because I have the excuse that I am buying all these great things for my students and classes. It's actually one of the best parts about being a creativity teacher.

So this one day I was pushing my shopping cart around and it was practically filled to the brim with all kinds of goodies, but mostly tempera paint, which is the kids paint that I use in my workshops.

I was standing in line waiting to check out when for some reason I turned around and saw this adorable little girl, maybe 6 years old, clutching, and I mean white knuckle clutching these two bottles of tempera paint and looking up at me with the most wide eyed, plaintive, almost pleading look. I was actually a little taken aback by the intensity of her gaze and not sure what it meant, because she didn't say anything, she just stared at me.

The Advantages of Living Out Loud

Every time someone asks us a question, we have a choice to make, "How much truth shall I express?" "How much of my True Self should I reveal?"

Among our choices are the "convenient" truth, the "diplomatic" truth, the "socially accepted" truth, or the "absolute" truth--that is, "the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God!" Do any of us even know the absolute truth about any situation in our lives? And can we ourselves handle the whole truth all at once about any subject? Let alone share that depth with others?

What's Important Now?

We all know that doing the same old things will likely get you the same old result, right? Ok -- So with that in mind, what if I asked you what your top three priorities are for today -- just for today? I asked that one time to a client, and she said (without humor), to clean up after the dog, referee the teenagers, and try not to fight with my husband. Well, yippee.

Your answer might be to drag yourself through the day at a boring unfulfilling job, do a lot of chores that are frustrating and repetitive, or be at everyone else's beck and call and have no time for yourself. Well, yippee again. It's easy to lose sight of what you really want in your life when there's so much going on in the world -- not just the world at large, but your own world.
