Self-Acceptance

How To Nourish The Sandwich That Is You
The "Sandwich Generation" is a term that has now made it into the dictionary. It fits an increasing number of Boomer women whose reality includes being squeezed between the demands of growing children and the needs of aging parents.
A study by AARP and the National Alliance for Care-giving identified over 44 million Americans who are caring for ill adult family members, 60% of them women. According to the National Center on Health Statistics, about 80% of women in their 40's have children for whom they are still somewhat responsible. Given these numbers, many of you may well be asking yourself, how can I balance caring for my parents, my children and myself? Here are some tips to help you sustain and nourish yourself.

The Secret Of The Masters: Yours!
It was Aleister Crowley who made a profound observation that I have always remembered from the time I first read it. He pointed out that there is one - and only one thing - in common in the lives of Jesus Christ, the Buddha, Mohammed, Moses and other great spiritual teachers.
Apart from this, their lives and teachings were totally different. So too were the people they preached to and the message they taught. However, there is one unique experience that they all shared in exactly the same way.

What You Judge Won't Budge
Sheila was stuck. Even though she was trying to hard to change some things in her behavior -- especially her anger and her clutter, she found herself doing these things over and over. Then she would get upset with herself, telling herself she was stupid and incompetent.
How often do you tell yourself that you are wrong, bad, inadequate, unworthy, a jerk, stupid, and so on? I've found, in the many years I've been counseling, that most people are frequently inwardly judgmental.

We have all had them as we set and go after our goals, no matter where we are or what our goals may be: naysayers, detractors, people who poke fun or get angry or tell us we can't do it. Detractors are very serious business, even if they just seem to be having a little fun at our expense. Don't let them stop you or even slow you down. How do you deal with detractors? A Zen Approach to Healthy Eating

The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Eat and Why
By
Jonny Bowden
Especially around the first of every year, people talk about "eating healthier." It often comes tied to talk about losing weight, working out, getting fit ... the kinds of things that go on New Year's Resolution lists every year -- and last a few weeks before being dumped again in favor of one's old habits -- which presumably were unhealthy and needed to change.
But old habits die hard ... and usually the desire to change isn't nearly as strong and stubborn as the routines and preferences it's up against.
The fact is, if you want something badly enough, you'll do it. And if you're reading this essay, somewhere, somehow, something in side you wants a healthier diet. You'd just like it to be easy -- so you stand a fighting chance at making it happen without the pain, misery, sense of deprivation and inconvenience which teams up with the power of your old habits and forms an unbeatable alliance.

Your True North
How to Navigate to a Life of Fulfillment
You were born with an internal compass that absolutely knows how to lead you to a fulfilling life. Some call this your Higher Self, Martha Beck refers to it as your Essential Self, and I call it your TRUE self.
Your True Self is that part of you that is always connected to Spirit and can give a broader perspective than the immediate (where we tend to put our focus). It has your best interests in mind: your ultimate happiness, your perfect life lessons, and your greatest accomplishments. It is like an internal compass pointing you North. Your own GPS system that will signal when you are off course or circling back down South.

Anticipatory Grief and Holidays
12 Survival Tips
Anticipatory grief - a feeling of loss before a death or dreaded event occurs - is a hard journey. Holidays make it even harder. At a time when you're supposed to feel happy and joyful, you feel sad and anxious. You're on pins and needles and wonder what will happen next.
Remember, your grief stems from love, and you may find comfort in that. Holidays don't erase your reasons for feeling sad and lonely, according to the National Mental Health Association, and "there is room for these feelings to be present." So accept your feelings and, if you feel like crying, go ahead and do it.
